Submitter gets a trophy full of steak'ums for the headline.

I agree with Ghastly. Props to submitter.

Jethro Tull pic needed and I'm too lazy to look.

Submitter loses the steak'ums due to lack of a comma.

"Not having a bard in their party, have no way to tell if it's cursed or not."

The error in the headline is a typographical one, not grammatical.

I like the part of the article where they explain what a woolly mammoth was.
2004-12-11 03:57:48 AM
pieced together from 31 fragments found in a cave

I wonder if it's the same way they "pieced together" Nebraska man?
2004-12-11 03:58:29 AM
"rich pickings" is a great phrase. I'll be sure to overuse it in the future.

And this one time, at spring hunting camp.....

*golf clap*

Nice headline.

"The flute, one of the oldest musical instruments discovered, was pieced together from 31 fragments...."

New, from Puzz3D....

In the frozen land of Nador they were forced to eat Robin's
minstrels... and there was much rejoicing.

Great headline.

It made checking Fark as I'm about to pass out at 3am worthwhile.

Ahh the party bard. The most useless member of the team, except when we needed the 'bardic music' bonus. My gaming group had the universe's worst misfit playing one. He cheated at gaming, hogged conversations, and made all the ladies uncomfortable.

Pff, don't you all know? World of Warcraft is the new geek game.

I dont want to nitpick, but ...
If that flute is 35.000 years old it is not ancient but rather prehistorical.
I thought that needed correction.

Since I have no HTML skills, I'll put in a request for this:

Someone put in a picture from the Bard's Tale III title screen? Preferably the C64 version.

/That's one of the few RPG series I could really get into

Bards rock! When I used to play D&D, I used to....oh, wait...

2004-12-11 05:25:29 AM
haha, only Fark would give props for a D&D reference in a submitted title.

"Not having a bard in their party have no way to tell if it's cursed or not"

I'm sorry, what does this mean? It must mean something. I don't get it. Help!
2004-12-11 05:34:17 AM
Was it found with lots of rat and children's bones?
2004-12-11 05:34:41 AM

It's a bit of old-school Dungeons and Dragons geekery. The character class "Bard" could identify magic items and their properties without casting a spell, IIRC.

On the topic of D&D humour, yesterday's Penny Arcade (still up at their site) almost made me fall out of my damn chair laughing.

ambientcolors: haha, only Fark would give props for a D&D reference in a submitted title.

Of course we will! Do we have anything better to do? While the headline was not terribly understandable, I also never understood the function of a bard. I always play a Paladin in the RPGs. I know it's not that creative of a character to start out with but Paladins always have some subtleties that you can learn along the way.

/Still a recovering Diablo2 addict. I can't touch the stuff

Greatest post about bards. Evar.

AnonymousKnowItAll: Essentially, every item in a DnD game and its descendents have one of four states (at least, this is how it is in Nethack): uncursed, cursed, blessed, and unknown.

And to top all of this off, last night I had the weirdest dream, wherein I was DMing for a few other people and really sucking at it.
2004-12-11 06:09:38 AM
I'm sure the headline is quite clever. Among NEEEEERRRRDSSSS!

/I keed, I keed.

35,000 years old? damn godless europeans must be making up numbers. It could be pre-flood, but how could it pre-date creation? Come on guys.

just kidding.

My favrit old school RPG. (even though Ultima didn't have bards until U4)

I'm sure fark isn't the only place on the internet where D&D jokes are funny... It is the internet afterall.

Anyone else playing the new Bards Tale?

Great humor, fun game design and character dev, mediocre gameplay

You spoony bard.

Finally, conclusive evidence that German women have been playing the flute for 35,000 years.

Digitalstrange: Anyone else playing the new Bards Tale?

I'm waiting till the PC version since they're not making a version for the Gamecube. I wish they'd make a real Bard's Tale 4.

I'll never forget the first time my bard had sex.
(from bersl2's link)

I bet this cave was actually an ancient band camp
2004-12-11 11:25:57 AM
Why doesn't one of the team just cast identify?

My Prediction is it will be an Ivory Flute of Summon Elephant. 1/day the player of the flute can summon a planar elephant that will see the ivory flute and immediately attack the player for killing its father.

The evidence continues to build for civilization in Central Europe as far older than anyone (but Hitler) had ever dreamed.

Anyone else playing the new Bards Tale?

Yeah, rented it. I dunno, way too goofy. Maybe if I knew it was supposed to be silly I'd be more into it. Kind of the way I felt about The Fifth Element.

What is with all the lame headlines lately? I loved this headline, but a lot have been coming up limp. Maybe there needs to be a best headline contest.
