(KSL Salt Lake City)   Subby and other Utahan Farkers have a choice of voting out the known Mike Lee (no brainer) but the only viable alternative is voting for someone who claims to be unaffiliated but could turn into a Manchinema 2.0 upgrade without the quirkiness   (ksl.com) divider line

When presented with a choice between choosing the lesser of two evils? Always choose less evil. Always! Not voting is a vote for evil.

Evan McMullin is a bit of a known quantity. Conservative for sure, but not a Trumper. So it's actually an easy decision.

If McMullin claims to be unaffiliated he's not really a valid Manchin/Sinema comparison.

If he claimed to be a Democrat, perhaps.

What people expect of him is to not be a treason weasel. Such a sad, low bar we have.

Ordinarily, I would say go with the devil you know, but Lee is a fascist traitor and co-conspirator, so I'd roll the dice on the other guy.

I go to a restaurant, hoping to order a Pastrami sandwich.  The sandwich shop says they they only have two options:

- Turkey and swiss

- A bloodthirsty starved crazed wolverine between two slices of bread

They also inform me that I can't leave without taking one, and that if I don't pick, they will pick for me.  I casually note that the restaurant employees are all wearing "Team Wolverine" shirts.

I obviously don't want the wolverine, but I also find turkey and swiss to be pretty bland, so its a hard call.

Mike Lee is a seditious traitor.  If my choice is between an asshole who helped Trump try to overthrow the government, and an asshole who didn't, I know which one I'm voting for.

Mike Lee pushed the big lie and is an all-around piece of shiat. Anyone who'd rather have more of Mike Lee than someone who's sane but not far enough to the left should be mocked mercilessly.

This.

Having a conservative in the Senate instead of Mike Lee would be a big step forward. There's a reason the Dems chose not to run anyone.

McMullen ran as a spoiler against Trump on the Utah ballot. He got a respectable vote number afaik so he might have enough name recognition to unseat Lee.

Albino Squid: Evan McMullin will suck in a lot of ways. He will not suck in some ways.

Not sucking in some ways makes him preferable to Mike Lee, who sucks in every way conceivable.

Not really a difficult call, though I'd expect that Lee will still win.

This.  McMullin isn't a Trump sucking treasonweasel, which immediately makes him infinitely better than Mike Lee.

This poll aside, I would be truly shocked if Lee doesn't win by a very comfortable margin.  Once you get outside Salt Lake proper, the majority of Utahns only qualification for voting for a particular candidate is that they have an "R" by their name.

Subby here. I agree with you'all ... just hate having zero representation here as a liberal. Used to be my district was a Dem but the farking shiatheads couldn't have that so gerrymandered the libs to make sure we get zero voice.

Utah is pretty weird. Last poll I saw was 36% Lee, 34% McMullin.

Ahead by 2 points with 30% undecided is not where an incumbent wants to be with 6 weeks to go.

Also as bad and frustrating as Manchin and Sinema are, their GOP opponents were worse, and MoscowMitch is not majority leader.  Replacing Lee with McMullin further reduces the power of the autocracy faction.  There's also the prime opportunity to make Manchin and Sinema irrelevant by flipping some Senate seats.

After what they did with our congressional districts I thought voting would be a be a completely pointless but important act of protest. With McMullin on the ballot it's now only *mostly* pointless, so that's nice.

I would assume that it's because Utah is part of dumbfarkistan, so a bad choice from Utahns is a foregone conclusion.

They are both, in reality, republicans, so they can both go fark themselves. But when it comes time to vote I'm at least trying to get rid of Lee. I doubt McMullin will be meaningfully better, but he'd have a damn hard time being worse.

Central Arkansas provided the most votes ever for a Libertarian candidate for US Senate - because the only alternative was Tom Cotton.  Don't feel bad about voting for the alternative to Mike Lee.

Yeah, McMullin will be as reliable of a GOP vote as Lee is, with the only exception being orange issues.  He's the independent who just happens to fully endorse the pre-Biglyhands GOP platform.  The whole reason there's no D candidate is that if Utah D's turned the November election into (essentially) a high-turnout GOP primary there's a much better chance of voting out Lee.
