I mean, Jersey Mikes is about as good as close as you can get to a real east coast sub in large swaths of 'murca.

Maybe mine is a good one, but they slice all the meats and cheeses paper thin, are extremely generous with them all - I couldn't imagine ordering extra meat - even a fat carniphile like me would explode trying to finish iat. The lettuce and tomatoes never taste old and the bread is really good.

I could go for an Original Italian or Super Sub right now.

The Tat's truck used to park in the lot right next to me every couple of weeks, but they haven't been back for a year or so.

We've had a Jimmie John's fairly nearby for about 4 years.  I've never gone there myself, but have had their "catering" meal once for a business function lunch.  It was good, and came with a cookie and some chips or something.  However, those sandwiches are really small.  I hope someone opens a Jersey Mike's.  There are two Which Wich's also, and I tried one right away when they opened and it was good.
I don't know, I'd rather have a sit down Mexican or Chinese meal though.  I'm kind of a penny pincher, and feel I should be able to make a farking sandwich myself.

/and I say that as a fluent Welsh speaker

First discovered Jersey Mikes while spending 5 days in a weed-legal state. It was a block from the hotel. I was there every day of the stay. Also discovered Tapatio Doritos.

It was life changing.

I didn't know there were any Quiznos still around. Apparently there are two in Atlanta.

I don't eat Subways or Jimmy John's any more. I tend to prefer Firehouse Subs if I am eating at a sub chain.

If it must be a chain, yes Jersey Mike's is great but give me a East Side Deli Italian sub any day and twice on Sunday

But firehouse ain't terrible... I mean it's not great.. but it ain't terrible. And sure as hell ain't subway. And does anyone not an office order Jimmy John's?

Jersey Mike's is definitely in the lead, but watch out for both Firehouse and McAlister's Deli as up-and-comers. Both have huge customer loyalty and share of wallet ratings. The sandwich segment of fast food/fast casual chains was more chaotic and competitive than any other cuisine type this year (i.e., In-N-Out and Chick-Fil-A are both runaway leaders in the burger and chicken segments).

Penn Station is easily the best.  There's an indie sub place local to me that reminds me of it, only problem is since the pandemic it closes at like 3 pm.

I love Jersey Mike's, close second is Publix. Subway can fark right off and keep farking off. Firehouse -- meh, don't steam my sub you weirdos.

Footlong jm cheesesteak out the door was about 17 bucks out the door last time I went. Delicious but too spendy for regular eating. Deli at the supermarket across the parking lot has a sub that'll feed you for four days for ten bucks or a custom burrito good for two days for five bucks...

I have the exact opposite experience.

Sure, back about 5-8 years ago, they did have a good amount a meat on them. A regular sub with chips and a drink was under $10 as well.

Now? Ha. It's all bread and veggies, hardly any meat. Plus the last time I stopped in one, it was almost $16 for a regular sub with chips and a drink. It wasn't just one location either. From Palm Bay to Doral, I've tried quite a few just to see if my local one just sucked. They all suck now.

Thankfully there is basically a Publix on every corner down here. Those subs are legit. I can get an actual footlong Ultimate sub with Boars Head ham, turkey, roast beef and bacon, with chips and a drink for less than $12. And they PILE the meat on.
