Kevin McCarthy and Lindsay Graham are gonna - *touches earpiece*

Sorry, wrong kind of sub.

Nobody's ever going to have a better sandwich than Subway, anyway. They're crafted by artists!

...or rely on one of the many chain sub restaurants across the country. If you tend to do the latter, forget the Subways, Jimmy John's, and even the Quiznos of the world.'

I didn't know there were any Quiznos still around. Apparently there are two in Atlanta.

I don't eat Subways or Jimmy John's any more. I tend to prefer Firehouse Subs if I am eating at a sub chain.

Meh.

I miss going to Tat's.

If it must be a chain, yes Jersey Mike's is great but give me a East Side Deli Italian sub any day and twice on Sunday

I've only tried Jersey Mike's a couple of times and it wasn't bad.  But we have some better local chains (Capriotti's and Primos) not to mention an abundance of excellent non-chain options.

+1

The Tat's truck used to park in the lot right next to me every couple of weeks, but they haven't been back for a year or so.

Tat'strami + 2 hots!

I mean, Jersey Mikes is about as good as close as you can get to a real east coast sub in large swaths of 'murca.

Maybe mine is a good one, but they slice all the meats and cheeses paper thin, are extremely generous with them all - I couldn't imagine ordering extra meat - even a fat carniphile like me would explode trying to finish iat. The lettuce and tomatoes never taste old and the bread is really good.

I could go for an Original Italian or Super Sub right now.

/doesn't work for them I swear

We've had a Jimmie John's fairly nearby for about 4 years.  I've never gone there myself, but have had their "catering" meal once for a business function lunch.  It was good, and came with a cookie and some chips or something.  However, those sandwiches are really small.  I hope someone opens a Jersey Mike's.  There are two Which Wich's also, and I tried one right away when they opened and it was good.
I don't know, I'd rather have a sit down Mexican or Chinese meal though.  I'm kind of a penny pincher, and feel I should be able to make a farking sandwich myself.

Not a chain but Safeway $5 Friday sub was a shameful purchase that happened more than once

The only sub chain I miss is Penn Station.

But firehouse ain't terrible... I mean it's not great.. but it ain't terrible. And sure as hell ain't subway. And does anyone not an office order Jimmy John's?

First discovered Jersey Mikes while spending 5 days in a weed-legal state. It was a block from the hotel. I was there every day of the stay. Also discovered Tapatio Doritos.

It was life changing.

I used to work next to a Chicago Pizza which has forgettable buffet style pizza, but the toasted subs were surprisingly delicious... and being able to order ahead of time saved more time to chow down and relax before going back to work.

Yes, those are especially amazing!

Sadly, the nearest Jersey Mike's to me is 12 miles down the freeway.  The closest sandwich shop to me used to be Subway, but is now Togo's.  I have only been once.  It was okay, but the sandwiches are way too big.  There is a Quizno's in town, but it is on the other side of town and a huge PITA to get to unless I am already in the area.  Lately, if we want sandwiches, we've been going to Mr. PIckles.  It's relatively close and everything is tasty.  I prefer Jersey Mike's, but I just cannot justify going that far just for sandwiches.

If you're in the North Seattle to Lynnwood region, try Tubs Subs.

Tubs Subs > JM's > JJ's > Subway

pub subs (from publix) are pretty damn good and made to order, i promise. i just made them for 8 hours today....

Jersey Mike's is definitely in the lead, but watch out for both Firehouse and McAlister's Deli as up-and-comers. Both have huge customer loyalty and share of wallet ratings. The sandwich segment of fast food/fast casual chains was more chaotic and competitive than any other cuisine type this year (i.e., In-N-Out and Chick-Fil-A are both runaway leaders in the burger and chicken segments).

/I analyze this stuff for a living

Jersey Mike's is as solid as it gets, nothing fancy just a quality straightforward hoagie, but good lord does it take a long time sometimes.  Maybe buy two of those meat slicing machines and have two employees going at it during rushes.

Penn Station is easily the best.  There's an indie sub place local to me that reminds me of it, only problem is since the pandemic it closes at like 3 pm.

I'm spoiled (spoilt?) for choice when it comes to sub shops around here. Off the top of my head there's Subway, Jimmy John's, Jersey Mike's, Potbelly, Tubby's, Lefty's, Louie's, Penn Station, Quiznos, Captain Nemo's, Nautilus, Al Basha, Mancino's, Gabriel's, Firehouse... not to mention a bunch of little corner stores and pizzerias that sell sandwiches. That's the suburbs for you I guess.

I love Jersey Mike's, close second is Publix. Subway can fark right off and keep farking off. Firehouse -- meh, don't steam my sub you weirdos.

Closest Jersey Mike's is about 22 miles down the freeway. I usually pick up a sandwich if I'm in the area for other reasons, but have been known to have a craving bad enough to go for the sandwich alone.

I also will give a shout out to Potbelly. I first had their sandwich on a business trip to Boston. I like the hot pepper thing they've got going on for an Italian sub.

I'm sad they don't expand much. They'd make a killing here in Utah

Footlong jm cheesesteak out the door was about 17 bucks out the door last time I went. Delicious but too spendy for regular eating. Deli at the supermarket across the parking lot has a sub that'll feed you for four days for ten bucks or a custom burrito good for two days for five bucks...

Bazel's, Holliston, MA.

Those chain places can go do their thing where people have no standards.

I have the exact opposite experience.

Sure, back about 5-8 years ago, they did have a good amount a meat on them. A regular sub with chips and a drink was under $10 as well.

Now? Ha. It's all bread and veggies, hardly any meat. Plus the last time I stopped in one, it was almost $16 for a regular sub with chips and a drink. It wasn't just one location either. From Palm Bay to Doral, I've tried quite a few just to see if my local one just sucked. They all suck now.

Thankfully there is basically a Publix on every corner down here. Those subs are legit. I can get an actual footlong Ultimate sub with Boars Head ham, turkey, roast beef and bacon, with chips and a drink for less than $12. And they PILE the meat on.
