OPEC has loyalist agents in western countries that they bankroll with oil money.  One of their directives is to obtain high-paying private sector or government jobs and direct the corporations they work for to become more reliant on petroleum products.

Now they're switching to corporate usurping of potable water systems.

Amanpour said that Raisi's aide made clear that the interview -- which would have been the Iranian president's first on American soil -- would not happen if she did not wear a head scarf. He referred to it as "a matter of respect," given that it is the holy months of Muharram and Safar, and referred to "the situation in Iran," alluding to the protests sweeping the country, she added.

The stated reasons are bullshiat. Asshole likely just wanted a photo-op he could use against his own people. "She's willing to wear a hijab in New York to show me respect - why can't you wear one in Tehran, willful women?!"

Fark that guy.

As are all Abrahamic religions.

If you watched the 2nd Impeachment trial, one of Trumps lawyers had to put one hand on his head every time he took a sip of water because he was not allowed to wear his yamaka.

Conservatism is the problem.

It always, always, ends in the past.

it's a front for authoritarianism, and once you strip away all of the different sky wizards and fake rituals, it's just the haves controlling the have nots with fear, subjugation, opression and lies.

fark conservatism

Good for her. She's not yet mandated to wear a head covering in New York City yet.  Even disregarding the whole Ukraine special action. Things appear that they are spinning out of control in multiple areas. This whole Iran thing could prove to be a really big deal. I wonder if the negotiators of the Iran nuclear deal may have seen something
like this happening. Bet they did.

Also, it's an easy out for him. He makes a preposterous demand knowing she'll say no, and then he gets to whine about how disrespectful these uppity American women are.

I simply cannot imagine demanding that a journalist look a certain way in order for me to sit down with them. The level of petty, malicious entitlement that that takes is just mind-boggling.

And there is something truly obscene about fleeing your country because irate women are justifiably protesting the murder of a young woman who didn't cover her head the way you like and coming to a country and demanding the women in that country also bend to your asinine demands. That's exactly why these women are burning your country down, you cowardly, sniveling asshole.

Take a look at the timeline for Women's Suffrage.
Take a look at the timeline for Women's Rights in general.

That's the scary part. We're a Republican Congressional majority and a puppet in the White House away from American Taliban rule. The GOP's using that possibility as a goddamned selling point in the '22 election, FFS.

Give it another Republican term in office, and I'm sure the GOP's Grayshirts will happily perform the task just to solicit his praise.

There isn't a fascist or oppressor on this planet that the GOP won't fawn over - Duterte, Bolsonaro, Putin, Assad, even this cowardly little smeg of a man, Raisi.

They do have a developing situation with women not wanting to be property.

Being on TV with one who lives in a country where they are only mostly property would send a real mixed message.

Anyone feel like "liberating" Iran like we did Iran and Afghanistan?

This time, train the women to be cops, soldiers and security guards, with lots of range practice.

Yeah, some people in the United States do that with masks still. People are strange.

2022-09-22 8:57:29 PM
Oh come on.  Why is this surprising to anyone? For 2 reasons.  We have powerful politicians in this country that won't even have interviews with women or he alone in the same room with a woman that's not their wife/mother.  Pence anyone?  And It's a theocratic country that is in the middle of massive protests and police crackdowns because a 20-something year old was murdered by the morality police for not wearing a head covering.

Of course they wouldn't as this is what they believe in.

It would be surprising if he didn't, especially considering what's going on right now with the country.  The country is on fire right now because of this exact reason and for him to do an interview where the interviewer wasn't wearing a head covering would be extremely bad optics back home.  It would set off the country even more.

This isn't surprising under normal circumstances, it's even less surprising under the current situation where it could be viewed as extremely hypocritical and not living up to the faith that got a woman killed and is causing massive protests.

It's dumb as fark and wrong, but this is as surprising as the sun coming up.

2022-09-22 9:18:06 PM
The only truth here is that this clown didn't want to do the interview, and picked an easy way out.
Easy, at least, in the sense that no explanation is required, or likely to be accepted by anyone not stupid.

That's not because they are afraid that their potent masculinity will overwhelm the poor helpless girl.
It's because they know the more intelligent female will make a f**king fool of them.

We shouldn't care what this shiathead has to say. If your culture is stuck in the 1100's, it's time for you the stfu and be walled off from the modern world. Good luck maintaining basics like electricity and plumbing. We'll check on you in a few years with a drone to see how you're progressing, just like uncontacted tribes in Brazil.

Probably inappropriate to ask this question but I'm pretty sure she wears a wig which is one of the outs for Orthodox Jewish women to get around the head covering rules in their parallel universe.  Somehow the strict Shia should have a similar custom, unless they really don't like women and curse the day their mothers have birth to them.

I don't know if it's inappropriate, but I'm also not at all sure what point it is you're trying to make.
