They don't call that place Harborzoo for nothing.

It's also a nice place to stab a nurse, euphemistically or not

Ironically, EMS might be legally required to bring them into the hospital. If you get shot just outside, try to stagger in.

When I worked trauma on Chicago's south side, it wasn't uncommon that someone would show up at the hospital looking to "finish the job" on a gunshot victim.  Nice people.

It didn't work often, and there were usually at least a few cops on campus.

Relevant clip from the best Australian movie of the last 25 years follows... starring a young Eric Bana in his first film role (he was a sketch comedian and impressionist before then) as the real life standover man Marknaghopper Read.

Best stuff is in the leadup to the quote... Clip starts at 3.12 automatically, but recommend the whole thing. In fact the whole movie.

Maybe the shooter was British? I mean, shooting someone in front of the hospital seems like a rather polite way to shoot someone.

I read the article all the way through at got caught short at the final graph: "Harborview is the regional trauma center serving a large swath of the Northwest including Washington, Alaska, Montana, and Idaho and is where Seattle's first responders transport people requiring significant care including gunshot wound victims from across the city."

Say what - entire states are without trauma centers and Seattle has only one?!

i was told an armed society is a polite society. I suppose its true if "polite" is defined as "acting like stupid butthurt babies who resort to lethal force when their feelings are hurt and have zero impulse control."

Level 1 Trauma Centers, not trauma centers in general.  That's less common than you'd figure.  Level 1 is a full service hospital with everything from prevention to aftercare and rehabilitation for anything that's wrong with you.  Level 2 trauma centers there are a fair heap of, and they've got surgeons on hand 24/7 etc.  Level 1 is just the more comprehensive hospital and often cherry picks the best - they're the hospitals with big reps generally.  (Often well-earned.)  So the hairiest most immediate uh oh this dude gonna die cases tend to end up in their hands

Fact. I was witness to an event involving a person being injured literally in front of the doors leading to an inpatient wing of a hospital which connects to the E.R. while the doors for that e.r. we're about a 90 second walk from where the incident happened. An employee of the hospital went in and alerted the ambulance team who hopped in their ambo, drove it literally 1/4 around the building and brought her into the E.R. on a gurney.

A $1,000 trip that could have been made in seconds.  Mind-numbing crazy use of resources, staff, money and time.

/ she could walk fine and there was no head injury or other concern that required stabilization.
