Burn it off with a torch.

Slap it into a boiling pan of water before you dunk it in a bucket of ice water.

Freeze it and rub it really hard in the sink.

/ Thanks, I'll just open a jar of salsa

so, is CLAIRE getting fired or getting promoted?

because she used to need to post 2 "articles" per day, at 9am and 3pm.

now it seems like 2 per week.......is claire ok?

Or, as my brother recently discovered, turn on the oven to 375 F after you forget that you wife told you that she'd put a basket of tomatoes (and one of peaches) in the oven to keep them away from the mice.  They came out of the oven mostly peeled.

I'm looking into long-term care for them both.

And all of them work

I hope you find a good home for peaches and tomatoes

Even easier: buy a can of whole, peeled tomatoes from a decent brand for when you need them, and don't bother peeling the fresh ones you cook with.

Note I'm not arguing that the above strategy produces equivalent results. Just that it's WAY easier.

Tomatoes aren't typically peeled when used in salsa and salsa out of a jar is disgusting

Some salsa is even made in New York City.

Boil for a minute?

What the hell sort of crappy underripe tomatoes is she using?

I give them maybe 5-15 seconds.  I basically do this:

1. Cut shallow X into a tomato and drop it in the boiling water
2. Cut another tomato, drop it in the water
3. Fish out the older tomato, and peel it
Repeat 2 & 3 until done
(Yes, I know technically that leaves one still in the pot,, fish that out and peel it, too)

If they need more time, you have three tomatoes in the water at once.

And they're in there for such a short time, you don't need to shock them.  At most you have one off to the side cooling so you can handle it added into the whole sequence of things.

I've had some good results with 505 brand. But I usually buy fresh tubs that come in plastic for reds. Yes, it's easy to make any kind of fresh , but I have found some good ones , and can be lazy and want to keep those producers in business.

Well sure, but that can mean "Do not hassle Claire" or "Under no circumstances interact with Claire"

/which one was it?

luna1580: hey, you hear anything from jose/WCK about you?

Well, I stayed up 'til 1am getting my application submitted on the day before early voting started.

Then I realized I screwed up the application (they had said specifically that they wanted to know why you wanted to work for them in the cover letter, and to include it in the PDF of the resume) so withdrew it to fix it... but working alternating 14 hour days meant I was exhausted, and didn't get it back into the system immediately.

And then the job disappeared from their list.

They've had a 'cloud data engineer' position listed up there for a month or so, but I've got no actual cloud experience.  (It didn't make sense fiscally for what I used to do...I did some container work, but never 'cloud')

I watched a few training videos on Azure last week (as I had picked them up through Humble Bundle a couple months ago), so debating if I should try to get certified and then apply.

... but then been dealing with doctors appointments and such.

/also suspects that I had screwed up the cover letter included in the resume back in December/January when I first tried applying to WCK

When I read "peel, seed and chop two tomatoes", my brain filters out the peel and seed bit sand goes straight to the chopping stage, or sometimes just grab a can.
When I read "push the tomatoes with their juice through a sieve", I reach for the passata.

"...and you don't even have to make a little "x" in the top of the fruit."

I don't even bother with doing that any more. I was in a hurry once while I was processing a ton of tomatoes and it didn't make much of a difference, if any.

I recently processed about a bushel of peaches for freezing and making jam. Out of curiosity, and to just change things up because it gets monotonous, I processed one batch of peaches with the boiling/ice water method and tried using the X cuts on the fruit before boiling. I didn't find the method made skinning the peaches any easier, it actually seemed to make the peeling process take a bit more effort and time. The skin will tend to tear into more pieces if the peaches are scored with the X but the unscored peel slips off the fruit nearly in one piece.

/YMMV

Oh, snap, indefinite antecedents!

After spending the last ten days with my bro and his wife, I was more focused on their future than that of the oven-damaged fruit.

They ended up as cobbler and marinara.

And this is why I suspect they've been cooked too long.

You want to just barely cook the bit under the skin so it loosens up.  If you cook for too long, you weaken the skins, too.

If a 5 second dip isn't long enough, then you put it back in.  The X gives you some flaps that you can easily grab and pull on.  (Stick the knife under the flap, put a thumb on top, then pull)

/suspects she's using crappy grocery store tomatoes

You made cobbler and marinara out of your brother and his wife?  I know things have been a bit freaky lately, but it's a bit early for straight to canning long pig

I have a few times, but the particular gazpacho recipe I had called for it.  It certainly wasn't a regular thing, and for non-fresh tomato applications if you realllly need them canned peeled tomatoes will generally work
