A self fulfilling prophesy.

I pretty much have to start saving now. I got rid of all my CC debt and never again---I'm cash only now.

Gonna find out China hasn't been making as much as we're used to. Power cuts, water shortage and floods, and a bunch of civil disobedience.

The gifts aren't that expensive, it's the travel.  Granted, I love the drive out West... and shooting my sister, brother in law, niece and nephew with my Nerf machine gun.  It's worth a few thousand bucks.

Christmas isn't a religious holiday, unless your religion is excessive eating and shopping.

Well, so is most everything. I mean like eating those chocolate bunnies for Easter, or having a beer and stuffed potato on St. Pat's day. Or even dropping your pants and shooting off a rocket on the 4th of July can be a relioug experience, especially if you play "Stars and Stripes Forever"

mistahtom: I don't celebrate religious holidays.

So what do you celebrate? Amazon Prime Day? 2f1 coupon day at the waffle house? Hand Job for a friend day?
Come on, tell us. We want to share the joy.

104 days?  Why that only leaves me about 103 days of procrastinating left!  Whatever shall I do... or right, nothing.

I've reached the age where waiting for a birthday or holiday to buy something doesn't make sense.  My wife bought me a bamboo potato crate this week, some assembly required. It's outside in the gazebo de-gassing the finish.

No, they are not. It's a dead point in the retail year now that back to school is over.

Or, we could stop with the idea that Christmas means showering everyone you care about with piles of disposable crap is shiny paper, and if your Christmas tree isn't 1/3 buried in piles of brightly wrapped packages that you've failed as a parent.

Christmas wasn't meant to be this orgy of materialism. It was a small gift - if you were well off, three, like the Three Gifts of the Magi. The modern trend of BUY BUY BUY OR YOU SUCK is capitalism at its worst.

104 shopping days left? That means I have 106 days before I discreetly dump a lot of things I never asked for at the Goodwill.

Food prices are going up because wage slaves are complaining that food prices are going up. That what inflation is.

Dear citizens,
You don't need to buy cheap Chinese crap to prove you care about family members.  Try calling or spending time with them instead.

The truly pathetic thing is that if people actually listened to you and stopped buying crap for Christmas, most of retail would go under.

Yep.

My parents, brother, and I stopped giving gifts a few years after we graduated college.  We just spend holidays and vacations together.  No need to just buy crap just because.

The wife's family does a version of Yankee Swap or whatever where it's basically all alcohol gifts under $30 or so.  It's fun and not much money involved.

YMMV and all...

I'm not shopping at all. Staying home.

Pandemic isn't over. Rich are trying to recoup losses from you instead of themselves. This article isn't reporting about panic buying - it's trying to instigate it. Lots of overstock at retailers, no easy way to get or stock new stuff, so retailers are hoping you'll clear them out in an orgy of "OMG I NEEEEEED IT BEFORE XMAS OR I WON'T GET IT FOR XMAS!" buying.

Yes comrade.  Surely central planning by benevolent leaders will place the sheeple in their place leading to a harmonious, pure environment, where everyone is equal.  Now just give up your basic human rights.
Pinky swear.

There's an unpleasant and shockingly unmentioned tone of racism in the phrase "cheap Chinese crap."

Well we can blame the Middle Ages for that. They sure knew how to party and give gifts back then.
