Ideally, someone should charge the state legislature with practicing medicine without a license.

Because causing others to suffer is the only thing that brings joy to their miserable existences.

It pisses me off that the antiabortion crowd has this idealized image of pregnancy where no one has complications or a miscarriage of anything other than a birth you only see on a very special episode of a tv sitcom.

They are pretending to be family friendly while doing irreparable harm to families, and pretending to be religious while doing the opposite of their religions beliefs.

They currently only allow for a civil suit. It was the one that they drafted so they could get to SCOTUS, once the Handmaid was seated.  You can sue the person, and anyone who helps them.

The one I describe in my hypothetical would allow TX to throw them in jail too.

I tell my birth story a lot because I think it's a useful cautionary tale. (CSS: I got a life-threatening infection during the delivery and ended up getting a new heart valve.)

A lot of times people are really surprised that a pregnancy could leave behind so much damage. And I was actually really lucky my daughter was born healthy, because I don't think I could have handled the NICU experience on top of my shiat. But imagine having a debilitating illness *and* a sick baby to take care of.

I'm hip-deep in McCarthy voters, but I can bet not very many of them would be interested in taking care of a sick new mother *and* a newborn baby (healthy or not).

"I was just your quintessential pro-life Texan," .... The DeSpains once again have a tough decision to make: abide by the doctor's advice and leave Texas, their families and their jobs or stay in Texas and risk Kailee's life once again. How instead of spreading your "quintessential pro-life" ideas to other states, you stay in Texas and help fix the mess you probably helped create? What's that?  You would have to put off starting your family until Texas changes its laws? You aren't willing to offer that option to other people in Texas that might not be able to afford to care for another addition to their families right now.*****"(Her doctor) said, 'This is what a normal heart looks like, but this is what your baby's heart looks like.' Nope easy decision; move or adopt a child.

I'm glad she went public with what she went through, I think that helps Texas immensely just by her getting her story out and showing she is capable of changing her mind and denouncing her former belief. It sucks that it took this to change her mind, but some people need lived experience before they get the point. It's very common.

Indeed all people with the potential of living a life of suffering should just die.

Now, DeSpain finds herself supporting and advocating for the abortion rights she once found morally problematic. Which would be great if that were the article linked to, but her political beliefs and affiliation are not mentioned anywhere in this article.

Meanwhile the jezebel piece says she's now an advocate for reproductive rights and was once prolife. It doesn't say she changed her beliefs in the last six months, but it does say she's now an advocate for reproductive rights.

Meanwhile she's now gone public in a state full of violent reactionary fascists and quite frankly put herself at risk.

Would've been real farkin' nice if she'd had some brains and not been a prolife degenerate sooner, but she's not one now, and she's advocating for reproductive rights that republicans hate.
