The news on this issue is very vague on the "islands" being occupied. If there is going to be a war, it would be nice to know the cause.

Turkey and Greece have never actually come to terms on the issue of Cyprus and there exists a DMV on the island, to this day.

DMZ.  I meant to say DMZ.  A DMV would drive them to further violence.

Cyprian islands are just one front.  Greeks and Turks are ancient adversaries and it's not an uncommon news story that has an old or terminally ill Greek attempt to cross the DMZ to kill a Turk or two before he dies...and vice versa.

Some of the Eastern Aegean islands are within a few KM of Turkeys shore (Lesbos, Chios, Sammos, Ikaroa, and the dodecanese islands, all ceded by treaty at the end of wars)
Greece claims the 6 nautical miles limit of territorial waters, Turkey isn't a signature to the treaty that shows claiming of 12 nm. If Greece were to do that, it basically locks Turkey out of the resources of the Aegean, and Greece would also be able to control access to the Turkish straits, as the full width of the Aegean would be covered. You may be able to make a coastal sailing, but one of the islands is only 1 mile from Turkey, so its quite a narrow gap.

Look up the "blue homeland" map, it's something Ergodan has been hinting at recently, but enacting it means a lot of Greek islands coming under Turkish control.

True enough, but let's also not forget that the Greeks tend to feel ignored whenever turkey gets good press. With all of the press they are getting for the drones and other things in Ukraine this may be nothing more than a "mommy, pay attention to me!" From the Greeks. Hard to say at this point.

The Turks have always been the West's southern bulwark against the Russian hordes.
At least not when they were hanging out with the Central Powers.
Of course, the Central Powers are on our side these days, so they don't have that excuse any more.
They're probably realizing that they're starting to outlive their usefulness these days.

I used to work with a really good guy called Mehmet, who did his National Service in the Turkish Army, having been born in Izmir.
His first assignment after basic training was the Cypriot DMZ. Mehmet loved being in Cyprus, it was a beautiful place to him. Unfortunately his officers caught him with a Greek Cypriot girlfriend. He was punished by being made to write "I must make war not love." in Turkish 1000 times.
It didn't deter him and they caught him again a few months later.
This time they decided to post him somewhere else. High in the mountains on the border with Georgia. He spent the rest of his conscription freezing his nuts off and eating tepid soup.

Since there is  no mechanism for kicking a member out, NATO needs to dissolve and reform without either turkey or hungary.

Turkey was courted as an ally due to the threat of the russian menace.

Since that idea has now been exposed as false, it's time to stop kissing turkeys ass and treat them like the scumbags they are.

The Greeks are nuts too.   They turn the jingoism up to 11 as well... flags everywhere, political screeds on everything.  They spent years stamping their feet over Macedonias name, to the point that they demanded they drop the name or be excluded from NATO consideration. Remember, they've been a military dictatorship on and off through the 20th century... the cradle of democracy runs a bit Faschy as well. Not Erdogan levels, but still, this isn't the Greece of textbooks and philosophers; it's another East Med state with a history of economic problems, unstable democracy, and a long-standing beef with its neighbor rooted in centuries of conflict and grievance.

The linked article was completely one-sided... it kept the conflict vague and only presented Turkey in the worst light, and the Greeks in the best.

AP had better coverage:

As someone who had family lands seized by the Turks, family killed in the Pontic Greek Genocides, and can trace his ancestry back to the Aegean islands, fark the Turks.

However, it is also apparent that the Turks were farking my Greek ancestors as well, since I have a significant portion of Turkish DNA.

Not just the Armenians. Ethnic Greeks like my grandparents and great grandparents were forcibly marched out of their lands with hundreds of thousands of them killed along the way. My maternal grandmother lost several siblings during the forced march to Greece.

Add in what these savages are doing to the Kurds and honestly I'd be the living embodiment of the "ohno/anyway" meme were some catastrophe to befall the Turks.
