Subby, ME as their QB would be an improvement over last year.

It's smart to start like that and just ease the kid in. They have a solid team and if Tomlin does Tomlin things, it'll be a good season for them.

the Steelers are going to be bad this year but not because of Tomlin. that O-line is awful and can't be fixed in one season

won't stop the COWHER'S TEAM morons from demanding his head, though

Well, if Trubisky couldn't make it in Chicago, he can sure as heck not make it in Pittsburgh.

Fortunately, a good 67% of vocal fark Pittsburgh fans will find a way to blame every bad pass or mis-read on Tomlin.

I hope Mitch has some success. It felt like he never got the proper development in Chicago first being thrust into game action too early under John Fox and then having to suffer under Matt Nagy's "genius". Add to that a trash o-line where the game could never slow down for him because he'd always be running for his life and it felt like he never had a chance.

ElwoodCuse: the Steelers are going to be bad this year but not because of Tomlin. that O-line is awful and can't be fixed in one season

Oh no.

/then there's the whole thing about the pressure of being a #2 pick when he should have gone in the middle 1st round or later
//off the field and in the locker room he was a total mensch though

Is there really that much hate for Tomlin? Because, honestly, I think he's one of the best coaches of all time. Maybe I'm just an idiot.

Not with Trubisky and substandard protection for him from their offensive line.  Headline is not wrong.  Wait for 2023 for a good season.

It's the normal small percentage of loud idiot Twitterers and sports radio callers any fanbase has who hate him. A lot of people think it's a racial thing, and part of it might be, but they wanted to run Cowher off too every year he didn't win a Super Bowl and he's white as can be

So just a bunch of spoiled dummies

For me, just what he's been able to do with the players he has. And all those dogsh*t years with Ben when he was either "going through some things" or just broken and sh*tty. He always found a way to at least keep the team competitive. And the years when he had a healthy and solid Ben, he made them count.

Dunno, I just have a special place for the guy. He seems to really know the game and he does not do stupid sh*t. Him and Vrabel are my two favorites right now. And I'm not even a Steelers fan at all... But i like Harris and hope they don't break him.

But it sucked last year too.  I think the talent is mostly better, just gotta give 'em time to jell.  And our QB play, thanks to not being a broken-down overweight 39 year old who can't move, is going to improve.  Is trubisky amazing?  No.  But it's hard to be worse.  Ben did have like 6 or something 4th quarter come backs last season but only because he was god awful the first 55 minutes every game.

And honestly our WR room is better (I look forward to seeing what Pickens will do this year) and Alualu, if he stays healthy this year, will immensely improve the only negative of our defense from last year.

I don't really see why anyone thinks that we'll get worse.

We're certainly not winning the super bowl, but it's not like we suck either.

/And if Trubisky somehow sucks ass, well, Kenny is waiting.  And I think he has a very bright future.

I too think he is a very good coach, but there is definitely a subset of Pittsburgh fans, some of whom are farkers, who like to very loudly tell you (and anyone else around) that everything that has ever been wrong with Pittsburgh, and ever will be wrong with Pittsburgh, is Tomlins fault.

This year all comes down to the O-line, and after that to our run defense. We have a lot of studs but porous in both lines and that's going to be a problem. Next year will hopefully be better but I am optimistic about the future.

Yes there is, even by non-fans who said Tomlin won his Super Bowl with most of Cowher's team.  Yet they overlook 2019 when, by the time it ended, it was a mix of all three strings held together by duct tape and super glue, and still threatened to make the playoffs until Week 16.

The seasons after Todd Haley was fired were all on Roethlisberger.  They should've made an effort to cut him loose after 2019.  Then he went out and led them to 11-0 to start 2020, but in 2021, a new quarterback should've been waiting in the wings to take over after his 90th attempted dump pass.

O line. It's worst in the league as of right now. Harris is going to be running into a wall all season and Trubisky will be running for his life. Pickens will be good if he has time to get open.

Tomlin also coached the team to playoff losses to Tim Tebow and Blake Bortles. Let that sink in a bit.

Tomlin is a good coach but 15 years is a long time for the same voice and same "we do what we do" motivations.

Those dumb Indianapolis Colts for playing Peyton Manning right out of college and not making him sit.

Oh wait...

Mitch Trubisky isn't as good as Alex Smith. Tell me why it makes sense for Matt Nagy to get dragged for sitting Fields behind Andy Dalton but it's a smart move to sit Pickett behind Trubisky.

If sitting behind Josh Allen for a season is all it takes to make someone a qb1, the Steelers should have just went after Matt Barkley, image how great he is after being on the Buffalo roster for a few years!

Nope, Pitt alum who was initially happy the Steelers drafted Pickett. This is plan is dumb.

Other differences between Mahomes sitting vs Pickett sitting.

Alex Smith knew the KC offense and was successful with it, Trubisky had a one month head start on Pickett.

Mahomes didn't play in a pro style offense in college or have the number of college games.

What is Pickett going to learn by watching Trubisky play? The number one quality Pickett was being hyped for was his ability to play day 1 with his experience and skill set.

So in other words you have no decent responses, got it.

Alex Smith when beaten out by Kaepernick, was picked up by the Chiefs as a starter. When the Bears allowed Trubisky's contract to expire he went to the Bills as a guaranteed back up. Then signed with Pittsburgh for 7 million a year which is about what Jimmy G signed for for being a back up this year.

Mitch gives them a little more experience at reading pro D's and slightly more mobility. The latter will absolutely be needed this year. Hell, I think throwing Pickett back there would be tempting fate for a David Carr 2.0.

But add in I thought Mitch played slightly better in the preseason. I don't mind the decision, I think Kenny will be stronger for it.

I do feel bad for Rudolph. I think he's handled all this well.

If sitting behind Josh Allen for a season is all it takes to make someone a qb1, the Steelers should have just went after Matt Barkley, image how great he is after being on the Buffalo roster for a few years!

Oh save it. We know you'd be saying "Why are they starting Kenny behind this awful line!?" if he was starting

Frankly I'm fine with either way they do it since both ways have worked and not worked for other QBs. We'll just have to wait and see

Trubisky will give the Steelers more experience reading pro defense for the entirety of Pickett's rookie contract.

Say Trubisky middles through a 9-8 or 8/9 season. Next year Trubisky is still going to have more experience reading pro defenses so do you continue to sit Pickett? The only way to get game experience is to play the game.

Hillbilly Jim: BlazeTrailer: Hillbilly Jim: TDWCom29: Hillbilly Jim: TDWCom29: Hillbilly Jim: TDWCom29: Hillbilly Jim: This is so farking stupid. There's basically a three year window to find out what you have with your 1st round pick. Stupid to completely waste a year of that time.

Yeah those dumb KC Chiefs sitting Mahomes behind Alex Smith!

Wait, what year is this?

Those dumb Indianapolis Colts for playing Peyton Manning right out of college and not making him sit.

Yeah, but again, quick reads while running for your life will be key. I would HOPE they learn by next year the O line is important. Let the kid pick things up while not munching on pieces of his own facemask.

But by all means, if Mitch gives you the better chance to win next year, he needs to be your QB. I don't think that will be the case, though I do think Mitch is better than his Chicago experience. For that matter I think Kenny will get his time this year, be it through injury or mounting L's.

Use the high pick to get him protection.

Ethertap: Well, if Trubisky couldn't make it in Chicago, he can sure as heck not make it in Pittsburgh.

Fortunately, a good 67% of vocal fark Pittsburgh fans will find a way to blame every bad pass or mis-read on Tomlin.

To be fair to Trubisky, he got dumped into the worst possible situation in Chicago, first with Fox and then with Nagy. Worse, Nagy seemed determined to never play to Trubisky's strengths because they didn't match his "big brain plans" making everything worse. Trubisky started looking a lot better once he went to Buffalo to be a backup. I'm not sure he should be a starter, but he was one of the better available QBs this off-season with the bonus that he isn't a sexual predator.
