I'll fly if I have to. I really don't feel like flying anymore. The combination of an annoying public with airlines making it as uncomfortable as possible to fly has turned me off. I do want to visit Europe one day so I will have to do it then. But I hope to sleep through most of the flight.

Cool story time: pre covid I used to wipe down my seat area and tray table with sanitizing wipes because I always got sick flying. Someone pointed out that since I was putting my glasses in the seat pocket to sleep I was likely putting my glasses where people stored their tissues. So flying also used to make me sick. I stopped that habit and started carrying wipes and never had an issue afterwards.

They should take a cue from the big entertainment companies and call those complaining about them "Toxic Passengers".

I'm in Europe now. I guess I could have paid $3k for a ticket that would have seen me get treated like a human, but I chose to be thrust into cattle class. It was great. My knees were pinned to the seat ahead of me and the attendant spilled an entire pot of coffee on me. Luckily, this was Air Canada, and it was lukewarm, anyway.

FTA: A "huge problem with staffing shortages" has plagued air travel this season and all of 2022 so far

Anerican Airlines in July: Record second-quarter revenue of $13.4 billion, which represents a 12.2% increase over the same period in 2019, despite flying 8.5% less capacity.

I imagine the only people who fly with Air Canada are the desperate and the naive. That airline should not exist.

People need to stop traveling by plane unless it's absolutely necessary.

I have an IRL friend who literally goes on two +3000 mile trips a month for the last 10 years, none of them for business.

Has the car rental industry gotten its shiat together yet????

Didn't think so. Good luck getting around your destination if you need to go further than makes sense in an Uber.

Travel used to broaden the mind. Billionaires want to stop that, so make travel by air, train or car prohibitively expensive.
Schools used to broaden the mind.
Billionaires want to stop that, so they price teachers out of the profession with low wages.
It's a concerted effort across all sectors - food, housing, travel, healthcare, education - to get the proles to be poor, fearful, downtrodden, uneducated, unworldly and impotent, because they are easier to control.

That's crazy talk.  It's far better to scream, "Why won't anyone do anything about climate change?" and then hop on a plane for vacation, just so you can take selfies somewhere else.  And then turn around and blame government and big business for climate change.

Fly?  Hell no.  Groped by TSA, forced to sit in a very tiny seat that is way too close to other people?  I prefer to drive.

This. Used to love to hop a plane to travel up for a quick jaunt, or even for business trips. Airports and airlines have made it a point to be as frustrating and obnoxious as possible, and especially post-Covid, the anti-maskers and/or drunk entitled assholes are thick on the ground.

If a trip is 8 hours or so, it ends up being just as long either way to drive. Just really irritates for long distance trips also for how shiatty the service and comfort have declined. Cattle cars would probably be a step up at this point.

What bullshiat.  Travel as a hobby is a first-world affectation that the masses decided they needed too, since being rich is best.  Imitating what the rich do is best.  Pretending that you're rich, and have all the privileges of being rich, is the favorite hobby of everyone.  We deserve EVERYTHING.

No you don't, no, you're not rich, and no, we don't need a big house, a new car, a masters degree, and world travel to be a well-adjusted individual.   What kind of prole thinking is that?  You're only a victim if you want to be, and apparently, you all want it.

did you ever think that maybe, MAYBE, the world isn't an inexhaustible supply of entertainment and money for all of us, and we're running out?
Oh no it must be the rich pigs.  Not the rest of the pigs too.

Have you tried other carriers in North America? There's a reason Air Canada has been continuously voted best airline in North America for years. It's not because they are good.
