Small c conservatives, not Conservative Party members. Nowhere in TFA, or the link to "conservatives" in TFA, does it say any actual Conservatives complained. They name two journalists, one who was a Tory but left the party years ago and has been deeply critical of them since.

They do know the Conservative party has the most out gay MPs in Parliament, right? The last leader of the Scottish Conservatives was gay.

British Conservatives are nothing like US conservatives.

A gesture like this isn't nearly as enjoyable if we don't get to believe that it pissed someone off, and was thus meaningful.  If they didn't feel like they were trolling someone important, the gesture wouldn't feel important.  Also, there would be a lower ceiling on clicks.

Absolutely in line with Sir Robert Peel's "Principles". Police acting as members of the public garnering respect from same, minimizing violence and encouraging a close relation with citizens

Uh, Macarena is a lot of things, but gay isn't one of them.  It's a song about a girl named Macarena who's cheating on her boyfriend (Vittorino) with two of his friends.  People paid attention to the lyrics as much as they did to Born in the USA.

And if this is gay, sign me up.

It's an everything dance.  It took over the planet during the 1996 Summer Olympics.  You could hear that baseline thumping from the bottom of a missile silo in Minot, ND.  Kids did it in PE class.  People still do it at weddings, which I find an odd choice, but whatever.

Hell I'd be down on them for this not because it has anything to do with gay or not, but because it's an overplayed relic that makes me groan internally louder than the farking chicken dance when it comes on.  What they're guilty of is breach of taste, not some nebulous sexuality implications fever dream

American "conservative" (lower case) is just a euphemism for Republican anyhow.
It has nothing to do with being conservative or have any real meaning other than that.

obligatory coppers dancing with drag queens and half naked women at Notting Hill Carnival yesterday.  bless em, the cops have laminated maps with all the tube stations marked up with the times they're exit only, and so on.  they spend most of their day giving people directions.

38 arrests [so far]:

5x possession of drugs
2x criminal damage
6x public order
10x assault
2x sexual assault
3x possession of psychoactive substances
5x possession of an offensive weapon
1x drink/drug driving
1x theft
3x other

the drugs possession arrests... they must have been reeeeally asking for it.  people are smoking weed everywhere, like it's legal.  round the soundstages at least one in every three people.  and there's yout knocking out nitrous on every corner.

the policing is pretty light touch these days, I remember one year there was summink like 140 arrests.  still... there's always today, I suppose.

What qualifies as an offensive weapon at an English Pride festival?  A lance that clashes with the rest of your armor?  A long bow not painted like a rainbow?

I don't care if cops dance in weird ways, important thing is they do their job and catch criminals. Do they do it there? Here in the US, the cops have become so soft on crime. They let catalytic converter thieves caught in the act go freely because the computer in their police car is down. They wouldn't arrest carjackers who are sleeping inside a stolen vehicle and they just let them go to retrieve the car. When stores get looted, they don't really give a damn anymore, probably because there are so many "flash robberies" (where usually teens/certain groups rush a store and steal everything) are happening all over America.

But yeah, go dance Macarena or Achy Breaky Heart, as long as you stop crime when it happens.

err, absolutely everyone is drinking.

I suspect the rug possession arrests were for green/yayo, and for [amounts indicating] dealing.  and either they're letting them off the intent to supply charge, or they just don't call it that straight away.

Oh yes I'm sure they were, it's just in a rational world booze would be one of the drugs you just don't farking want to deal with at a large event venue.  It's classic belligerent prick fuel, but because it's a drug we've been using since the neolithic, it's ok.  Plays up how bloody stupid a lot of anti-drug legislation is - and how little it's about the actual problem the substance in question causes

Prof. Frink: The Macarena is a gay dance?

No, but if the purpose of an event is to promote inclusivity, then there's no reason they can't do non-gay coded cheesy pop dances.

But, that's not the story here. The story is that people who think that the Daily Fail and Express are news outlets are offended that police were acting inclusively, peacefully and still controlling the crowd, when they should have been beating people for daring to be gay like the good old days. These people pine for the days when they drove Alan Turing to suicide because his illegal homosexual relationship overrode his contribution to history, they don't want modern nonsense like peace and inclusivity, they want blood.

The basic mission for which the police exist is to prevent crime and disorder.
The ability of the police to perform their duties is dependent upon public approval of police actions.
Police must secure the willing cooperation of the public in voluntary observance of the law to be able to secure and maintain the respect of the public.
The degree of cooperation of the public that can be secured diminishes proportionately to the necessity of the use of physical force
....
Police, at all times, should maintain a relationship with the public that gives reality to the historic tradition that the police are the public and the public are the police; the police being only members of the public who are paid to give full-time attention to duties which are incumbent on every citizen in the interests of community welfare and existence.
....
The test of police efficiency is the absence of crime and disorder, not the visible evidence of police action in dealing with it.

You mean the "caricatures" being sold by American conservative politicians? No one is inventing people like Ron DeSantis or Boebert or Greene or Clarence Thomas. No one is inventing the renewed effort to label gays as pedophiles or "groomers". No one is inventing the effort to whitewash history education to exclude anything that might make whites feel bad. Motherfarkers are doing this to themselves (yourselves?). There is no caricature. This is who they (you?) are.
