since US-China tensions spiked this month over a visit to the island by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

No, it was since Xi decided to make a fuss about it in order to bolster his chances of obtaining a third term.  6 senators and representatives including Lindsay Gramm went to Taiwan in April and China didn't say peep.  It was a manufactured concern and the US media is playing into it because they like controversy.

This isn't "I'm not touching you" it's "we, along with literally everyone else on the planet, have been sailing through here like this, without issue, for longer than your Party or Government has existed"

So, it's a Xi-said, she-said situation?

China is run by a bunch of engineers, not grifty fundamentalist religion types or crooked greedy salesmen.  It will demand quite a change in strategy.  Yes there are greedy, grifty engineers, but China really deals with them all by themselves.  No special master to gloat over the magnitude of the crimes needed.

They definitely have a form of religion in the way they are expected to devote themselves to Chinese Communist Party ideology; and nowadays Xi has taken a lesson from Mao and introduced his own version of that as well

The funds to pay for this pointless display of Western white male aggression could have been used to eliminate all student loan debt forever.

I urge all my fellow American lifelong radical liberal Democrats to protest by boycotting the elections, or voting third party. It's the only way to teach the corrupt Democrat Party a lesson.

I'm over 40, I think it would be cool to see exactly what the US could pull off in under 24 hours if we just unleashed everything we have on hand (not nukes).

I realize the results would be devastating for the planet, but it would be fun to watch.  We thought Russia was a super power 6 months ago, I think we're at least 20x better armed/logistically ready to actually fark things up.

I think we could definitely clear the skies, secure the air, and destroy most C&C infrastructure in a blitzkrieg-like offensive.

I think holding the territory and any subsequent occupation would be one of the most challenging pieces of the puzzle.

Not any more.

That's the problem with current American politics. The GOP has drifted so far to authoritarian theocracy that a lot of former Republicans now identify as centrist Democrats.

This dilutes the influence of the left.

America needs a healthy progressive party, but our system favors a two-party duopoly.

We currently have a center-right party, and a Gilead-aspiring party.

In general elections, yes.

In primaries, I vote for the least crazy Republican. This requires me to register as a GOP voter.

Time to send two of our most secret supersonic missiles with crowdpleasers atop. 675kt on Chi, gee, key,xi,whatever,, and one for pootine. Better yet, full release on all "communist" regimes, including kimmy in a dress. Time for the US to prove how big our cock really is.

I thought Xi was now locked in for life, no matter what?  Does he need to win anything, anymore?

"The Chinese military's Eastern Theater Command said it was monitoring the two ships, maintaining a high alert and was 'ready to thwart any provocation.'"

This really is a hilariously limp-wristed response and significant loss of face for the Party every time they respond this way, as they maintain, fervently, that the Strait is their own Internal Territorial Waters. It would be like the Russian Navy steaming through the Vineyard Sound, and Washington being like "Okay, well we're keeping an eye on you guys, don't get up to any shenanigans while you're there."

WWIV was kinda crappy and had about a billion holes making it very hack-able..It was cheap/free and
easy to setup..So that's one reason so many people ran it..It also ran well in multi-node on low end PC's.
Renegade was much nicer with a nice file system for upload/download..
Searchlight was one of my favorites..PCBOARD was usually run by the snooty "warez d00dz" type..
