And here I am blaming plague moms who treat their kids' role in public health like another consumer choice. I could be blaming the CDC.  It's so obvious now.

For this outbreak you can start with religion.

Oh f*cking eat shiat.

How are the trumpers going to stage a violent revolution when they're all paralyzed by polio?
🤔

Maybe the CDC should come up with some sort of plan for dealing with pandemics so that they can hit the ground running.  It would be invaluable down the road, save millions of lives and it isn't like the next administration would come in and scrap it out of spite.

2022-08-22 12:40:40 PM
Somehow, I feel like the CDC receiving terrorist death threats might have had a weird little Trump sized hand in their ability to guide sensible policy suggestions.

Fortunately we've dealt with the problem by making sure the CDC is unable to govern properly and giving the largest megaphone we can to the person inciting terrorism.

Should the CDC also eat shiat for pointing out the CDC's COVID mistakes?

Hard to roll your iron lung into a voting booth, too.

The states that allow people to opt out of vaccination for anything other than a legit doctor's recommendation are the ones to blame.

The only way to stop a resurgence of polio is a vaccine against Republicans.

Back when there were heresy laws, this would not be a problem.

Heretics against science should be taken more seriously than the heretic against some religious faith.  If religions want  to dicker about who goes to heaven, not really important.  If religion spills over to politics, you can get a hybrid heretic and seditionist.

But science is also a faith that a diligent worker can find meaningful cures for dangerous diseases, and a better life.  FOX has cost the US billions (maybe trillions) by promoting bad public heath.    FOX's message was pure hyprocracy, too.  It's workers followed very strict protocols.

The AFTRA and IA workers at FOX probably had the most stringent COVID protocols in the industrialized workforce.  Only medical and clean room workers had more possibly.

Heretics should be dealt with when they impact the lives and fortunes of the country.  They need to practice their hobbies in private, like their NAMBLA fringe cousins.

Well, we have allowed childhood vaccination rates to fall, this is a logical consequence of that. What is more interesting/scary to me is the efficacy of my now 37+ year old vaccination, I know it was able to protect me as a kid, but I have no clue if it is still working as intended now that I'm an adult.

I got through COVID w/o getting sick (so far), I'd hate to go pick up my nephews (they are up to date on vaccinations) from day care, and wind up in an iron lung 2 weeks later.

/very aware that I'm engaging in some hyperbole regarding my health risks for polio, it is uncommon for adults to even become symptomatic, per wiki

Trumpers aren't anti polio vaccine.  Liberals and progressives are much more likely to be anti traditional vaccine.

Portland for example is anti measles vaccine hot spot

The CDC's weird restrictions on testing are part of the problem.  They are prohibiting other labs from testing.

Yeah. Time for a reality check.

Do polio vaccines still exist and still work?

If yes, shut the fark up. Get your kid vaccinated or embrace possibly being the cause of great pain or even death.

What a coincidence! It's a religion that's been heavily targeted by anti-vaxxers even before COVID was a thing.

Again. Everybody repeat after me so it's clear.

Republicans are not anti traditional vaccine (like polio and measles). That's democrats.  Think places like Portland and Minneapolis.

Washington and Oregon are opt out states for vaccines.

Sigh. FTFA.

The CDC's recalcitrance appears to be bureaucratic. From a technical standpoint, detecting the poliovirus in sewage isn't any harder than detecting SARS-CoV-2 or any other virus, Knight explained. Take a sample from sewage, run a PCR test.

But in the U.S., the regulations regarding polio are stricter than for other diseases. "From a regulatory standpoint, you have to account for every single sample that might contain polio," Knight said. Polio surveillance, he added, is a "paperwork nightmare to get set up."

(emphasis mine)

They're stuck with regulatory issues, probably stemming from anti-biological weapon proliferation legislation. Nice job to mention that after 20 paragraphs of how the CDC sucks.

Given its Rockland Cty NY, the polio case is likely in the orthodox Jewish community where this BS antivax nonsense runs rampant.

If I were local public health or the CDC I'd use it to explicitly terrify parents there into their pediatricians' offices for vaccination. Polio is plenty scary. Get graphic & descriptive.
