I, too, was disappointed by the lack of David Rasche in the trailer.

If he did anything illegal, burn him. If he kidnapped and raped these women, use his fame to make an example.
But I've dated men who have expressed those same fantasies. I've met a lot of people who fantasised and acted out both sides of BDSM. I gave it a try when I dated someone into it. And I didn't enjoy it, so I said no the next time.
At what point does one man's assault, battery, stalking, and rape charges really just become torture porn banking on the general public's disapproval of kink?

Honestly just by the trailer I'm a little leery for similar reasons. I am semi involved in the kink scene and I know a lot of both women and men (and some in between) who enjoy being on both sides of the things described in this trailer.

I'm not saying Armie Hammer isn't a piece of sh*t, I mean he's a rich actor from a succession family. And it hints that there was some gaslighting and actual abuse going on and if that's what's actually happening (probably is) then he should face the consequences. But there's a strong vibe of all kink is prima facie immoral and vile in the first half of that thing. 🤷‍♂

I don't know what actually happened here. But, when someone "says no the next time", it has to end. If in fact it didn't, we move to the criminal code.

There's liable to be a very gray area here where someone is definitely not interested in the kink, and wants to dissolve it without dissolving the relationship. Leaving the absence of a hard NO. That dynamic is going to be viewed and acted on completely differently by both parties. "Liable to be" is the operative. I don't mean to say that there was in fact any gray area.

Here's the thing: there are kink scenes where all this is normal fare. The key is that the folks involved have all communicated, are informed, and most importantly, consent. Consent is kind of the important part. Not a whittling away of the other person until they collapse in a heap, but you want someone from the get go is a willing and eager participant. You'd best be looking for a partner in that scene for a lot of this. Not going recruiting from folks you just met.

And some guys just don't get that. They LIKE the power fantasy that ALL women want things this way, because it feeds their ego and fantasy. You find someone WITH your particular shared kink, you can't 'awaken' someone to it. You want to avoid this sort of thing, you'd best be looking for partners with this interest from the get go, not introduce yourself and figure you'll just slide them towards it by dint of your winning smile and generous nature.

That's how sh*t slides from a kink to a sex crime. Communication and consent aren't optional.

Unless it's an enthusiastic Yes, it's a No.
