Two glasses of water before going to bed alleviates most of the symptoms for me.  Orange juice in the morning is good for a quick blood sugar boost, and more hydration.

A nutritionist and a dietician? Lol. Ok.

Listen, part of it is dehydration.  But if drinking a bunch of water cures your hangover, you weren't very hungover.  And no, the headache isn't caused by dehydration.  It's the alcohol byproducts in your blood and also impurities in drink itself.  Red wines and brown liquors are the worst offenders.

As far as food, eat what you can keep down. Generations of drunks have been eating greasy salty food for a reason though.

Avoid caffeine?  Lol, ok...if you just want a worse headache, go for it.

And avoid physical activity? Bro, do you even drink? Sweating out a hangover is probably the quickest way to get straight.  Especially if you follow it up with a couple nice cold beers.

My nearly-sue-fire hangover preventer back in the day was 2 glasses of water with 2 multi-vitamins, then have a glass of juice or some gatorade by the bed for when I woke up to pee.  I was at least 80% the next morning, and fine by lunchtime.

No shiat it's not "good" for it. But it feels good short term, and if I weren't 100% up for short term good feelings I wouldn't be trying to fix a hangover, now would I?

Whatever veggie brain.  When I'm hungover, I look to comfort food and coffee.  Eating healthy is the last thing on my mind.  By the way, if you're a health nut, why are you getting drunk in the first place?

Now I get tired and go to bed before I get drunk, so I rarely get hungover.

In my 20s, I'd get up, make a cup of coffee, smoke a cigarette then take a shower. Then I'd go to the diner, get 2 eggs over medium, bacon, sausage, home fries, buttered toast and grapefruit juice and more coffee.  Then I'd go home, take a couple bong hits, then take a nap.  I'd be right as rain by afternoon.

Pho is the answer. It has Salt, magnesium, b vitamins, protein ( according to the walking dead Protein helps the hangover), and most importantly water. It's easy to eat when you are nauseated, cheap, and easy to get (where I am anyway). It is the ultimate hangover food.

In addition, and this is coming from a seasoned high functioning alcoholic, me:
1/2 tab gravol (more to tolerance)
2 ibprophen (not Tylenol your liver can handle it)
1/2 litre electrolyte solution
1/2 litre water
Caffeine dealers choice: coffee, Cola, red bull, pills whatever

If you go too hard on a weekend night;

no matter what, drink a gatorade right after that last pee.
take one of the mega-multivitamin packs, not just a centrum.

The next day drink a good 20 oz of water, drink black coffee, and go do cardio at the gym a couple hours after you wake up.

I'm old, I get hung over if I try to kick it like i did when i was 25, but i'm not going to stop having fun on a friday night just because i'm in my 40's. while none of the above make it perfect, the above does seem to work better than just sitting and sipping coffee for 5 hours after waking up.

i do surely wish i was still in those 20's, though.  A fella just snapped back better, even if it was a 12 pack kind of night.

Wow I have never seen a headline that basked in its wrongness this hard.

You need a quick sugar fix to re-energize your body and some nice tasty fats to not only do some long term energy but also soothe your stomach that feels like it was cleaned out with a Brillo pad.

I alternate beer and liquor or liquor and glasses of water then do a Gatorade before bed, it's been many years since I consumed so much that it wasn't an effective system.

My single best suggestion to avoid hangovers is to not pour another drink after 9pm. Have fun, do your thing, hell, stay wherever you are but just...stop drinking and then quit while it's fun and take care of yourself. Seems like once I turned 40 sleep has rocketed up my priority list because I cant seem to substitute anything for it. Used to be I could at least use food to partially replace the sleep I didn't get but that's a young man's game. A good run/bike ride and/or steam room followed by a hot shower is about the best I can do to help a hangover anymore beyond basic preventive methods.

I do however wish there was more responsible debauchery available 6pm-9pm. Not everything has to wait until people are ready to make bad decisions at 1am. Some of us are totally ready to make questionable decisions at 6pm and refuse to make outright bad ones at 1am. My mom and Ted from HIMYM were right: nothing good happens after midnight. Any orgy that doesnt start until after midnight is full of people who would never be intoxicated enough at 10am to ever consider being in an orgy. trust me on this you only want to go to an orgy full of people who really want to be there.

I used to run/walk 5k when I woke up hung over as a self punishment for bad behaviour. It really does help the body process the poison faster. Now I work in the early AM that is no longer possible, probably why I'm fat now.

Two hours of physical activity + central Illinois August heat and humidity later and it was gone. Had the sandy salt crystals on the skin and everything. Water and carbs like barley (malted), with a bit of hops and yeast.

2022-08-20 8:57:21 AM
I have found that my worst hangovers are connected to drinking right up to the point I fall asleep. A useful technique is to stop drinking and do something else for an hour or so before hitting the sack. Denny's, maybe? You can probably think of something to do.

Anecdotally, I have found that the hangovers I do get seem to dissipate shortly after I drop a morning deuce. That makes intuitive sense, I guess, since your liver does use your bowels as the place it dumps the poisons it filters out of your blood. So maybe have a salad with dinner?

Psychopompous: NINEv2: Axeofjudgement: NINEv2: hobnail: A nutritionist and a dietician? Lol.

Someuvdis hurr. The only sure fire cure I know of is to sweat that farker out. Some roomies and I went out for BP one Sunday afternoon after a rather debauched Thurs, Fri, and Sat evenings. Two hours of physical activity + central Illinois August heat and humidity later and it was gone. Had the sandy salt crystals on the skin and everything. I hated life and probably smelled like the upholstery in Anne Heche's car, but I was cured.

Because a son of Naperville is twice the son of Aurora.

/love you buddy

The Napervillains were too busy spending mommy and daddy's money on H and yay. E was just coming around too, although red rock opium was oddly popular my senior year. Also had some wicked double dipped blue robots. But we mostly made due with $9.99 cases of old mud. From Ames. Near the Venture.

/or was it Zayre?

Was that around 1990?

No, 95 I think. I never partook. Good thing too, red rock is nothing but incense.

Hangovers for me are living death. Which is why I rarely try it. Normally I pigout like a stoner before bed. The nutrients (or whatever I am lacking that causes a hangover) seem to work their way into my body. At worst I just feel tired the whole day after, since I stopped binge drinking.

Bananas give me mild heartburn if it is eaten alone.

Oatmeal and toast does it for me. Glass of milk and I feel almost normal by dinner.
