(Jalopnik)   It's a toss-up which shiathead party to dislike more here, Tesla customer service or the Texas DMV? Either way, this new car owner is parked   (jalopnik.com) divider line

Tesla: not once.

Texas: I tried to get my Texas driver's license and all my shiat square... then realized I was just better off keeping my Ohio shiat for the 3 years I was there. Montana? Easy to work with. I had no problem getting my Montana license and car registered.  Texas dmv can eat all the bags of dicks though.

...course here in Utah I just decided it was easier to renew my registration and keep my covid Ohio license...

Sounds like the local dealership that brokered the sale should be able to straighten it out.

Wait, that's right, they don't have those. Tesla figured out how to keep a cut of profits that would go to small businesses across the country, and Farkers cheer them on for it.

B. S.

If that VIN is registered to someone else, the DMV would be able to look up to whom. That they "can't" means either it isn't registered or they know who and just don't want to say.

Can't find someone to pay a couple hundred for some fake Texas temp tags so he can drive the car?

Moved to Texas in 2008, due to a job transfer.  We went into it with good faith, tried to make a go, but suspected that it wasn't going to work.  Experienced the shiatshow that is the Texas DMV.  Quite the runaround, small offices, Carol's not here now, y'all come back later bullshiat.  I farking just gave up trying to do that crap. Suffice it to say, we never registered our vehicles with Texas plates.  Never got Texas DLs.  Renewed our California licenses online and via mail.  Yes, CA renewed my DL with my Texas address.  Easy, no headache.  Moved back in 2010.  2 years with out of state plates and DLs and no problem.  Happy to give my tax/administrative dollars to CA.

As a Tesla enthusiast, you should know that any problem you have with Tesla is all your fault.

---ya, because nobody drives an unregistered car in the US.....

If the DMV knows it is dragging its heels to register a car, you think they won't tip off the cops to an easy quota check?  Almost as good as seeing that "Carvana" sticker on a car - don't bother checking the license sticker: that car doesn't have a title and doesn't have registration.

Tesla's customer service sounds typical of big corporations. I'm gonna have to dislike the DMV in Texas more seeing as how I've dealt with them in the past.

EABOD.
1) Dealerships typically aren't small businesses.
2) Dealerships have been known to take advantage of customers, especially women and minorities.
3) This is corruption plain and simple. Polls have shown that a majority of people would prefer to buy vehicles on line, but donations from dealerships prevents politicians from voting for this.
4) Should Apple be prevented from selling Iphones and Mackbooks directly to customers? Should they be required to go to a Best Buy and pay a markup?
5) We would be much better off without dealers. I say this as an engineer employed by one of the major automotive OEMs.

Well, that's a stupid take.

What a lousy story.

"No one knows why the registration was issued to someone else nor who that other person is."

Of course someone knows. DMV knows. They issued the title. This is on Tesla for sending some other person the MCO for this poor guy's car.

But the 'har har, hate on Texas' Fark circle-jerk brigade will never figure that out.

With the exception of Fairfield County, CT DMVs are amazing to work with.

I recently had to get a title copy for my car as I realized it never showed up when the loan was paid off.  I got a lien release from the credit union, filled out the form ahead of time and went to my end-of-day appointment.  You do a self check-in on a computer to get your ticket, seating was very well spaced out and not even close to full.  Despite being late in the day, I was called up exactly at my appointment time.  5 minutes and $25 later, I walked out with the title in hand, didn't even have to wait for anything to be mailed.

I'm gonna go rogue here and blame the victim for trying to game the system and setting off this whole chain of events.

I see what you did there.  I'm betting you honestly know who absolutely incompetent the admin people at Tesla are.  The whole damned company, from Leon Mush all the way down seems to be frat-bro/high school moron personalities.

And as always on Fark, that's really what's important.

I move to Texas with 2 leased vehicles. I drove on expired plates for two year. Because texas wanted me to pay taxes before registration. GM finally sold me the cars. The funny thing was when I got pulled over all I had to do was pull out my folder of paper and start explaining. The cop would just let me go. My wife drove on an expired Colorado license for 4 years but that's another story.

Other than Tesla started it all by sending the wrong title paperwork to the man, and obviously sending his to someone else, they are blameless.
