I laughed when I first saw this, then loved hearing the story behind it. Apparently Frakes had a back injury that caused him a lot of pain when they had to do multiple takes of him sitting down and standing up, so since the chairs on set had low backs, he started doing this because it was easier on his back. It just because part of the character.

I believe Wil Wheaton confirmed this on Reddit.

Also, I really liked his character and wondered whatever happened to Frakes after the show was done. Why wasn't he working more?

Then I learned he transitioned into directing and was happy for him. He does good work, too.

Tony Todd played Sisko's son in what is regarded as one of the best Star Trek episodes ever, the DS9 episode "The Visitor". I highly recommend you watch it.

He also played Worf's son, too, iirc.  Tony "Candyman" Todd was a regular guest star in the Trekverse.

Yep, just like the infamous "Stinknuts Manuvere" when Riker rests that one leg to view the helm console.  Dude has a bad back and I can empathise.

I noticed this on my own when I watched the show new.  It influenced me so whenever I went to a bar, I'd "Riker" the barstool.

And full disclosure, when I'm standing at a curb, waiting for the crosswalk timer so I can walk across the street, I sometimes imagine I'm beaming down, and I'm materializing.

I can't believe I just admitted that.

Good lord stop... the combination of a DID (classic split personality), schizophrenia and a malignant narcissism makes for a lovely parenting duo.  Add in some opiate addiction, cocaine and alcohol, and wheeeee../

For extra farked up sizzle, mom's Good is actually a really good person - the little is awful though.  and dad just wears a mask while denying reality and substituting his own.

whooo.

He definitely started out that way but it feels like Frakes' personality bled in really fast for the writers, so he had like a kind of switch where he was in XO mode being a hardass doing his stiff, stilted Riker shiat, but the moment he felt sufficiently off-duty he'd start goofing around, asking if you made it with that hot alien chick/dude/both/whatever yet. It also helped that for whatever reason Frakes always feels slightly off when doing the Riker shiat, but very natural when he's just being himself

I've been so pleasantly surprised by how much I am enjoying Stat Trek: Lower Decks and especially Riker's appearances. Frakes sounds like he is having the time of his life, and I am here for it. I hope we see him again in Season 3.
