Trump -- yet.

The only way the cult doesn't one day turn on Trump is if he manages to die beforehand and then the Church of Trump can truly begin.

And they'll probably claim he's not dead, like JFK Jr. and Sr.

And keep the claim up for centuries.

Weird how the rich rapepublicans in office have their poor cult followers fighting against the IRS to protect the rich rapepublicans in office.

It's almost like the cult is brainwashed or something.

Most of them probably get money from things like child tax credits (and live in red welfare states to start with) and think that the IRS is going to audit them for what, $3?

This is nothing more than the masters wanting their base to protect THEM.

No they take on the libertarian mindset of taxation as theft and giving it to brown people.

Or like their God, not paying taxes makes them smart.

He wouldn't show up at Congressman Lookout's office. He'd show up at candidate Lookout's and tell you to sign the pledge or he heads over to your opponent.

At that point you can kick him in the nuts.

When is it worth while to audit someone with less than $400k income? When they have a W2 job paying $100k plus and a "business" that has no revenue, never has had any revenue, and generates enough "expenses" to displace all taxable income. No, your $300,000 RV is not a mobile office for your winery that in a decade never sold any wine.

Had a guy complain about hiring 80,000 IRS agents or whatever the other day. My brain went "Wat?"
Looked it up, no they aren't hiring that many people.
The IRS has been underfunded and understaffed for a farking long time, and this will help them go after wealthy people who hide their taxes.
Of course Repubs have lied to make this about the IRS targeting the Patriotic Working Class.

I got audited a few years back and the meetings with them were some of the most professional meetings I've ever had.  I ended up having to pay some taxes, penalties and interest, but it was all legit and well explained.  I didn't even feel the need to overthrow the government like some people do in these situations.  YMMV

2022-08-19 10:00:09 AM
The IRS has also been directed to target the bottom 50%.  Lots and lots of crypto folks have been audited and fined, as well as gif workers who Fark with their taxes to keep their meager wages.  Also under the table workers.
Meanwhile #45, a single individual owes $100,000,000 in federal back taxes according to the IRS and there are no attorneys to haul him into court and force him to pay.
I would like it if they seized the keystone contracts that hold up his financial house of cards to trigger recalls of other loans and watch his entire world implode.
Not gonna happen though.

Anytime I hear some conservative complain about the IRS, I tell them, "I pay my taxes, and gladly," and they usually shut their craw.

Most of them are delusional anyway, they aren't paying income taxes because they're taking dependent credits for their crotchfruit.

Or the guy near where I live who owned a contract school bus company.  The guy made bank on buddy buddy contracts with school admins and reported income so low that he would qualify for the earned income credit. (which he of course took)

Amazingly he actually went to jail for a few years.

Those agents are being hire over ten years.  During that time thirty plus thousand current agents are retiring. There's a net gain of around twenty thousand agents over ten years.  Which brings the agency back to pre Covid levels.

MORONS!

I got a way-larger-than-expected tax refund and was about to call the IRS, when I got an official letter from them in the mail saying that the refund was legit and nothing else needed to be done about it.  I had a feeling that I shouldn't spend it, though, and put it in my savings account (out of sight, out of mind).  Sure enough, I got ANOTHER official letter saying that my refund was a mistake and that the IRS would like their money back now, thanks.

I tried to call the number that was listed on the letter to try to find out what was going on.  It was an automated number, and what always happened was that I would wait on hold for 15-20 minutes and then get cut off.

I tried going to the IRS website.  Emails sent to them were never replied to.

I tried using their website to pay the money back.  Every time I tried to do it, I kept getting errors, it took too long to load or I got a notice that the transaction did not go through and to try again later.

This went on for 2 YEARS.  I finally said "Fark it" and figured that if they wanted their money, they'd need to reach out to me because I'd done more than my fair share of trying to reach out to them and/or pay them.

It finally ended up that they "forgave" the debt and I had to pay a small amount to keep the refund.

Why do I tell this story?

If the IRS had been fully staffed and funded, I probably could have settled this whole thing with a few phone calls with an IRS agent and been done with it in a a couple of weeks, not years.

/Please fund the IRS
//It will help all of us tax payers in the long run

Blathering Idjut: Tax cheats don't want to have the IRS be effective or capable?  Huh.

All those tax debt companies on XM all have the same MO.

1. I got into debt (by not paying my taxes to the tune of 10Ks of dollars)
2. The IRS came after me, and it was so unfair! I was such a victim!
3. X company made those meanies go away and saved me 10Ks of dollars (would have saved more if I had just paid my farking taxes)

So, yeah, these people are farking awful. I am sure there are some people who really do have life altering events and can't pay taxes, but the commercials don't elicit those images in my head. They always make me think of the idiot who had a "brilliant business idea" with no business plan and then was so stunned his business failed after hocking his soul with bang bang and vroom vroom toys.
