Honestly, I'm expecting the reporting in November to be about how Democrats "dramatically underperformed" polling and the GOP "winning" both houses of Congress in a landslide as a result. Then again, I lost my faith in American voters quite a long time ago.

/"winning" in quotes because there is sketchiness that happens, mainly in areas run by the GOP
//really hope I'm wrong and the supposed changed trajectory holds out so that Democrats at least hold onto the Senate.

The result of this election will confirm your biases, or it will not. Either way, we'll say it's a trend and never bother checking the accuracy after the fact.  Thank you for looking at our advertisers.

The fact that we're even debating whether or not there will be a red wave after

1) Dems have a trifecta and passed a ton of legislation
2) Low Biden approval
3) Inflation + high gas prices

Goes to show how truly off the rails and out of touch the Republican party has become. This election should be a slam dunk for them yet they're struggling. The last time a President gained seats in a midterm was Bush after 9/11.

That's how badly the GOP farked up - 9/11 disaster-level bad.

Elections are like the stock market and football games.  Every pundit can tell you why something happened after it happened, but none of them can accurately tell you what is going to happen.

This is the fundamental function of punditry.  It's not about being right.  It's about being entertaining.

One election is not a sign of what's going to happen in November. Anyone saying otherwise either doesn't know shiat or is lying.

All politics are local.

Unless we need clicks.

Not to mention the trash fire that is done of the GOP candidates for senate.

Which is the class in journalism school where they teach that any idea or assertion, no matter how baseless or unsupported by reason, can be made real if you just exhort it with the right air of cavalier self assurance?
It doesn't work on me - these people who wrote this are full of shiat.

Winner winner chicken dinner.   At some point Republican voters just stopped talking to pollsters, that's why I'm skeptical of this recent upswing.   On election night I'm going to turn off my phone, get wildly drunk, watch all the Star Wars films in machete order and wait for the morning to be disappointed.

Ah yes, insisting on a total Republican takeover of Congress:  so much FUN.

Looking forward to December's "The Democrats went too far left in only giving Sinema and Manchin a paltry 96% of what they demanded" takes.

We've got two months to never make a mistake. While the Republicans can just continue making intentional farkups and blaming Democrats for it because no one expects them to ever behave like adults.

The only "mistake" is not voting.

That really depends.  Maybe enjoy hyping up your team and imagining your future glory.

Or maybe you enjoy despair.  Maybe you like to think about how everything is doomed.

And maybe you just like to pretend that you're smarter than everyone else by telling the Democrats how they're going to fail for sure because they won't follow your genius advice.

I was only 11, but remember the '68 election very well.   It would be hard to have a greater shiatshow than that, but I'm sure we are up to the task.   I would expect armed gangs of "patriots" actively preventing the "wrong people" from voting this November, and some cops either part of the gang or looking the other way.   It wouldn't surprise me in the least.   I would expect attempts to dump boxes and boxes of mail-in ballots from the wrong precincts too.   Being a local election official or volunteer is dangerous work.

I expect the reporting to be about Democrats blowing it even if they wind up with 350 seats in the House & 61 seats in the Senate.

/Not sure why this specific special election is supposed to be a bellwether.

They lied about covid, attempted a coup, and have stripped women of their fundamental rights.
They're theocratic fascists, and do not belong in power in a developed nation.

The democratic messaging on inflation makes no sense.

The GOP messaging on inflation makes anti-sense

Anywhere a Republican counts the votes will go red, so yeah, polls don't mean anything now.

How does inflation being both a global problem due to the pandemic and gouging by business people not make sense?

If there is no red wave (the Senate right now is already lost to the GOP) and the GOP lose seats in the house due to Trump, you will see them 100% start to disavow Trump.

If the GOP with the house and the senate because of trump (its not happening) then Trump will 100% be the GOP's god.

I thing the house will be close, and there will be no red wave.  if the GOP wins it will be by maybe 10 seats.

The root of inflation is due to overpopulation.

Yeah, you can argue there's corrupt business practices but then you're just affirming the point that the planet is overpopulated with corrupt people.

Democrats could win another 12 Senate seats and 50 House seats and the media would still say they "Dramatically underperformed". It's like predicting water will be wet.
