It's about that time. The cute little bunny kits and newly hatched baby chickens you bought your kids for Easter are a pain in the ass to care for so now you want to foist your irresponsibility on others.

Make a huge batch of rabbit stew and feed the homeless. Now you've solved two problems!

While this is the D'aaaw tab, I came here to say this. Rabbit is not my favourite meat, because it tends to be dry, a red wine reduction and a long slow cook can produce a decent result.

Here is a little sweetheart that we first saw in our backyard December 2019.  She split her time between two or three yards, and made friends in the neighborhood.  However, in December 2020, two cats chased her our of our yard, and we didn't see her in our yard again for six weeks.  I did visit her in a neighbor's yard, though, during that time, after putting up lost bunny posters.  In the Spring of 2021, we built her a deluxe "rabbitat" in the backyard, and she's a happy girl.  The other house that she hung out at was sold, but I have given the caretakers who lived there visitation rights, and they come see her once a month.  We're pretty sure that she is a Harlequin Mini-Rex (harlequin is the color scheme, and mini-rex the breed).  We're even thinking about adopting the longest-serving inmate at the shelter as a playmate for her.  Shame on people who abandon rabbits!

Join me later for a barbecue for the benefit of Rabbit rescue, sponsored by Kirkland brand spices . Through your contribution and BYOB we can save these organizations thousands on unnecessary veterinary care.

which looks like a wild cottontail rabbit , not the European rabbit kept as pets.

Are these dogooders kidnapping wild animals for their own good?

I had multiple rabbits over the years. They were cooler than I thought. I kept them inside uncaged. They were litter trained.

It is hard to explain how cool it is to have a rabbit come up to you begging for attention when you come home from work.

But, they are bad with kids. Don't mix the two.

She's adorable!

Roommate had a big gray rabbit called Zeus. He ate the power cord to my laptop.

Stolen from: https://regardingcomic.tumblr.com/

A place I learned that the Supreme biatch (i.e. mother nature + evolution) cursed rabbits horribly and the only way the species survives is by multiplying fast enough to cover the losses.  Expect to take extreme care (including vet bills) to get your rabbit to survive even in a safe home.  I may be quite the rabbit fan, but am unlikely to have the time and space for a pet rabbit (or two.  They are highly social and will need at least a second if you do something as silly as go to work).

back when we lived in NJ USA we had three rabbits over the years. they came to us one at a time, unwanted gifts that pissed off moms. Brandy was a huge German Lop, Cleo was a multi color Lop, and Max was an adorable dwarf. They were all really good girls and great pets. Each of them lived many years. I don't miss cleaning the cages but I miss those funny bunnies. RIP xoxoxo

One of my wife's friends is a bunny-lover. Her husband wanted a cat. The compromise? No pets.

There's an RV park on the Oregon coast that is overrun with bunnies. Apparently, the owner's daughter raised four for 4H and let them run free afterwards.  Given the nature of an RV park, coyotes, etc weren't a big problem. When I stopped there one summer, my greyhounds went nuts. Just about ripped my arm off trying to catch the rabbits.

Last time we were in Canmore, AB there were rabbits all over the place - apparently someone had a dozen of them in their house in the 1980s and turned them loose.  We have 2 holland lops for 4-H - they're ideal as domesticated pets.

We use the traditional, old-fashioned method - they live in a burrow under our deck, and every now and then we say "hey! a bunny in the yard!"
