I enjoyed that show, especially Marilu Henner.

I think I'll listen to Bob James 'The Genie" album before bed.   Thanks for the good memories subby!

Hello Nardo (the theme for Taxi, Angela, is on that album too).

I've always said about music, literature and old movies, "Classics are classics for a reason."

Same goes for TV.

I should watch this again.

Still waiting for the gritty single-camera Taxi reboot where they're all serial killers.

Are we giving notes?

I think the "slowing down" joke could have been improved by both slowing down the speed of the question and lowering the pitch as if you were playing a 78 rpm record at 33.  Slowmotion gestures would also add to the gag.

Someday, God willing I too hope to direct an episode of Taxi.

This scene.  This scene is the hardest that I have ever seen my Dad laugh.  While he wasn't "old", he was overweight and not in the greatest health.  He was laughing so hard that me, my sister, and my mom were all worried that he was going to have a heart attack.

For years after that, to get him to smile and giggle, all I would have to do is get his attention and start "Whaaaaaaaat... Doooooeeeeees.... aaayyyeee...."

I am so grateful for YouTube, and to a lesser extent, boxed sets, so that people can be exposed to all this awesome stuff.
We had to do it the hard way, watching hours of random reruns hoping for a chuckle.

Oh yes. Beautiful, super-smart, talented, and has an eidetic memory? Oh yes indeed. Alas, I was but a child when she was the woman pictured above.

Excellent scene.  I feel like sharing a classic comedy bit I like too.

Last thing you'd want is to be involved with someone with an eidetic memory. Not only will she keep bringing up previous arguments and your faults but she'll never let you live them down. She'd be absolutely brutal in a divorce case.

I watched that same scenario play out in my living room.  My brother, mother, & I weren't sure my father was going to make it, he was laughing so hard, he was turning blue.  This scene and the "Blue seat covers"* one later on nearly killed him.

*My Google-fu failed me on finding this scene but, in the opener, Louie says the owners are refurbishing the cabs & asks everyone what color seat covers they'd like.  Jim asks if he can think about it.  The entire episode goes on and someone is having a small crisis about something, as usual for the show.  At the end of the episode, they ask for Jim's opinion on the crisis and his says, quite emphatically, "Blue!"  Everyone looks at him quizzically and he goes on, "I want blue seat covers in my cab!"

For me, that's arguably the funniest scene in television history. Always brings a laugh.

She was hilarious in Noises Off. That whole movie was comedy gold.

I can never decide if that's my favourite scene from Taxi or if this one is. Both are glorious.

Classic scene from a truly classic show. We had it good back then with only 3 major networks and a smattering of Uhf stations... Taxi, Barney Miller, All in the Family, Mash... so many great shows. Well before network TV became cookie cutter tropes and stale marketing campaigns

No, it means "clear the intersection". Aka, stop before the intersection if you can, go through it you can't stop safely from your current speed.

It does not mean "slow down", it does not mean "speed up to make it through before the light goes red."

Seeing how many people have driver's licenses, it is one of the things you'd expect more people know, even if they don't actually do it.
