I don't think the article writer understands what a selfie is.

In many ways, I'm glad we didn't have all that technology available during my wild 'n crazy days to preserve "things" for future generations, but having worked as an engineering contractor for the German Army as well as German & US Navies, there'd be a lot of cool stuff to show off these days.

Even the submitter is dumb as dirt, or drinking as much as I have. I call it like I see it.

Is that a massive long selfie stick made out of carbon fibre in your pants or are you happy to see me?

I have several friends who do tower stuff. Broadcast and communications. I know the guys who put the Red Sox flag up on the Hancock building in Boston after they won the World Series in 2004.

It's not particularly dangerous if you pay attention...a lot like rock climbing. But you do need to be in excellent shape. I have worked on small (under 100 ft) towers myself, and you get surprisingly tired. But the view is fantastic. The really big broadcast towers have elevators to the top. About the size of an old phone booth.

The Red Arrows used to refuel at Woodford airbase in Stockport (I do miss going to the airshows there. can't now as it's all housing) and one day, on our way to my aunt and uncles, as we waited to cross a busy main road, we were somewhat on the Red Arrows flight path.
My mother has never been known for her continence - it's always been bad. but that road we were on, well, we had to cross it. two stage crossing (two lots of traffic lights, two pedestrian 'islands') with public toilets on the other side - the whole reason we were crossing that road wasn't that, but it was on the way, so, why not?
Just as we were waiting for the traffic lights to go red, we heard a rumble in the sky - and before we knew it, six Red Arrows shot past over our heads.
And at that point, as we looked up, my mother wet herself. And she still claims to this day 'it was worth it!'
Parents - can't take them anywhere!

Ah, the selfie... Pretending you're having fun with someone else. I remember when taking pictures of yourself was considered vain.

Old people had selfies too, it just involved a tripod and a time-delay on the camera.  All those family pictures with Dad screwing with the camera, then rushing to get into position before the shot?  Selfies.

Summoner101: I don't think the article writer understands what a selfie is.

What makes you say that?

Mr Edwards said he was able to capture the image after creating a "massive long selfie stick" out of carbon fibre, which he then attached to his harness.

That pretty much sounds like it fits the definition.

The shots not perfectly centered, so it's basically a huge waste of time, innit?
