>"And it's been reported now recently that every president since Clinton and Bush has had standing orders that whenever documents leave the Oval Office and go to the residence at night 'cause he's gotta go with work, they are automatically declassified."

Relying on "it's been reported" and "people say" as guidance for handling classified material. What could possibly go wrong?

The story says the National Archives found the documents had classification markings on them. That doesn't mean that they were not declassified.

It literally means they're classified, you dumb fark traitor.

What's wrong with these people? They're constantly confessing to crimes and conspiring to commit crimes on national television.

See, but this doesn't apply to documents the FBI planted so haha they still got you.

Yeah, I wish we could just speed things along to actual consequences. For all the talk about prison, just a fine is on the table, as well.

/Just going to wait and see.

Not to mention that Presidents are not Barbara Eden. They have to submit paperwork to declassify things.

Oh hell.  Now a bunch of diplomats and judges want to weigh in, wearing their morning suits or bowler hat, riding in limousines to the Court at den Haag and talking about various treaties and world capitals, being the best of the world.

Some of my best friends growing up were children of diplomats and I got horrible habits from them:  buying Mercedes at the factory in Germany, traveling to their country at a time very few locals spoke English (or most European languages)  and spending a month just discovering their land after they told me which war zones to avoid.

It's been a long time for a Just Security article on Fark.

People don't understand the backlog NARA is under either. I saw the other day that they had just gotten around to a tranche of 1954 documents. Given that PowerPoint and Outlook weren't really things in DOD until starting around the 2000s, once they hit the 25-year mandatory declassification date ("mandatory" means it has to be assessed for declassification, not that it HAS to be declassified), their work is going to up exponentially. They can pretty much say, "Sure thing, Mr. Trump" and getting around to processing his declassification decision next century.
