I'm pretty sure we were throwing this idea around after the Huberdeau trade.  RT must be celebrating.

You know, if he's done cheap shotting people and getting suspended for it and actually going to drive offense like he can, I'm good with this.  Lose Gaudreau and Tkachuk, get Kadri and Huberdeau?  Not bad

Good for him. Sorry to see him leave Colorado but he's a badass and I wish him well.

Habs get Monahan and a first rounder in 2025 for "future considerations". Not bad but I'm wondering how they have the cap space

LTIR maybe?  Monahan is kinda wrecked, maybe he's not expected back for awhile

Sad to see Monahan go, but after 2 hip surgeries under 20, the writing was on the wall for him. Hopefully he can rebound and have a number more productive seasons in Montreal.

As for the Kadri signing, it should actually be a good fit. He seems to be the type of player that Sutter can use well and he seems to have pulled his head a fair ways out of his ass. From all the doom being cast on the Flames after Gaudreau & Tkachuk refused to sign Treliving has done a fairly decent job of retooling on the fly. If they sign Weegar to a extension then he might be a front-runner for the Jim Gregory Award next year.

October 15th should be a very fun night when the BoA resumes with the added fun of Kadri v Kane after the shenanigans this past playoffs.

The impression I got from Leafs fans was more frustration than hatred.  Dude was a contributor, until the playoffs when he always got himself suspended.

Yes because the Leafs fan base is known for fair and unbiased player assessments...

Reports of the Calgary Flames' demise this offseason have been as greatly exaggerated as the Edmonton Oilers' free agent pickups.

Current Pacific predicts of mine:
1. Calgary
2. Los Angeles
3. Vancouver
4. (WC) Edmonton
5. Vegas
6. Anaheim
7. Seattle
8. San Jose

Let me get this straight: a refurbished goalie the Kings picked up for nothing from Dallas, rehabbed to decent standing in their defense-heavy system and then flipped for prospects to Toronto, where he was viewed by some as a bargain store liability in the playoffs, is suddenly THE MISSING PIECE TO BRING A STANLEY CUP TO EDMONTON by many of the same folks?

Calgary answered their offseason with flying colors. I like the progression Vancouver and Los Angeles have. Anaheim might shock some people and be competitive.

The Oilers? Hype for no real change on the roster. Might have even lost some in the grit and defense department, which were pretty thin to begin with. Oh, and who will take this Puljujarvi away from us for (insert ridiculous desire)?

Two weeks ago I had Vegas finishing ahead of Edmonton, then the Lehner news broke. Barring miracle career year from the who dats in net, Vegas MIGHT have a chance to leapfrog the Oilers if they can convince San Jose or Seattle to part with their goalie gluts, but I assume the Sharks enjoy watching the Golden Knights squirm, if not the Kraken too. I like the coaching change, there's a decent core and defensive corps in Vegas (the latter better than Edmonton's), but the roster is a bit heavy on shiny players made of glass, as well as THE MANAGEMENT souring the whole thing. I wrote "Lehner needs a partner to split time in the net ASAP" months back and that has bitten them in the ass.

/Central? 1. Colorado. 2. Dallas (that first year of DeBoer boost before fading badly), 3. Nashville. 4. (WC) Minnesota. St. Louis misses the cut for the playoffs in fifth, Winnipeg and Arizona fight for who looks awful and Chicago tanks for the draft pick.

PD, I love your optimism, but I think you're on the drugs.  I figure it's closer to the Spoilers, LA, Calgary, then Van, where Edmonton learns not every team in the playoffs will do them the favour of playing exactly Edmonton's style of game.  I think Calgary's new acquisitions will have just enough of a slump gelling together to deny the Flames the crown, but the top of the division I expect to be a knife fight all season.

I still think Edmonton is just barely ahead of Calgary and LA, with Vancouver just behind them and in the discussion for a wild card spot in a still fairly weak Pacific. The bottom half of your prediction I agree with right now.

AZ wants Bedard too and they're going to be off to a horrendous start thanks to their schedule (half of their road schedule will be done by early December). It will be them and Chicago vying for dead last in the league.

Pretty much.  He's a perfect guy for playoff hockey but he just couldn't keep his head straight.  I can also assure you that Leafs Nation is happy to see him lift the Cup.

Campbell is a good enough starter and his numbers are pretty solid.  The problem is he could ever make THAT save in big games, and given Edmontons aversion to defense there's going to be a lot more of those needed.

After the quality of play last season, the thought that the Habs might be running up against the cap did not even occur to me.

That are currently way over actually, but looks like price is out on LTIR again. It's frustrating to see as a fan because we just aren't seeing play for the money spent, and we can't even point to a bunch of expensive elite players. We have a lot of guys just slightly above average pay and that adds up

Huh? I mean kinda I guess in that I'm glad Verbeek/Anaheim didn't get a case of the dumbs and go after him.  He's a good/great at times player, but his age absolutely doesn't fit the rebuild plans.

No worries mate.

Still having issues? I was hoping that by now they'd have mitigated more than they have.

It really amazes/concerns me that players who have had several severe concussions (Kase for instance) keep playing even though they're one bad hit from becoming essentially a vegetable. With you having all these long term issues from just one ... it really is a quality of (future) life risk. If you've already made a couple tens of millions of dollars, get out of the game while you can enjoy the rest of your life.

Unfortunately it looks like this is permanent.  My doctors advised me of this a couple of years ago so I've come to accept it.  You may have noticed a lot of my comments are missing words or have weird structure, that's the cognitive issues.  I think I've typed one thing but it's actually another.  I still can't watch hockey games either, the contrast and speed completely mess up my balance and focus.  Honestly, if I ever spoke to a pro who had been knocked stupid a few times I'd tell him to just walk away, it's not worth it.  Want a sad scene?  Imagine having to sit down with your nieces and nephews to explain to them how from now on you may suddenly have fits of rage for no damn reason and you'll need their help so you don't get lost walking a few blocks.

In other news, 105% of The Hockey News's print sales now come from people buying the issue so they can laugh at the predictions on the cover later.
