Super-hot and smart.

OK, I'll admit the name didn't ring a bell & I had to look her up.  I must say for someone whom has "given up acting" she appears to be getting work almost every year, even this year......k/dar

Now I want to see Harry Potter with Rocky IV era Dolph Lundgren edited in place of Tom Felton.

And what the hell, let's see Rocky beat the hell out of a snot nosed blonde kid, too.

What's wrong with an entire thread of gross old men either
A) critiquing your looks in great detail, or
B) describing in great detail how they want to f*ck you half
Oh, I get it.

Her appearance on Impractical Jokers is wonderfully cringe-inducing. She was a great sport and it's one of the instances when it's clear the Joker's embarrassment is clearly 100% real, no acting needed.

John the Magnificent: Could someone point out for me exactly when she "stopped acting".  Cuz...

Yeah, she actually quit mathematics to continue acting.

She paused acting for a few years to get an undergrad degree in math in the 90s.  By all accounts she was extremely competent at that and could have gone on to grad school for a PhD.  She chose not to continue in academia in favor of acting (with some math books for kids on the side).

That's great, but she didn't really quit acting to do math.  She briefly paused acting and then took it up for 25 more years after that brief hiatus.

Calling her an "acclaimed mathematician" is also a bit much.  She wrote a really solid paper for an undergrad.  But the acclamations (and naming of the result from the paper) came from People and Variety, not academic sources - you aren't an acclaimed mathematician for a single solid undergrad paper.  Although, once again, she probably could have been a very good mathematician had she chosen that route.

I guess this sounds a bit like I'm being a dick, but my feeling is that I don't really like holding up McKellar as the epitome of a female mathematician when she quickly left the field after 1 paper.  If we're really going to encourage women to embrace the field, somebody who had the ability but decided to do something else shouldn't be our big example.

I'm sure she made a sound business decision to go back to acting. AFAIK most Mathematician careers afford you a comfortable middle class lifestyle. With her 108 acting credits and 90 personal appearance credits she has almost certainly earned a ton more than staying with math would have. And she can probably pick and choose when to take a role and when to spend a month off with her family. Beats 2 weeks vacation as a working stiff.

Most of that is voice acting. Which, yes it's acting, but not in a "sit around in a trailer all day waiting for your take" way.

It's pretty much "schedule the time that's convenient for you to sit with an audio engineer for a couple of hours" that you decide when to do it without the travel and grind and makeup prep work and "we can only film at 3am in the morning" stuff, and a great gig if you can get into it. If she's only voicing a couple of characters on a single animated series a year, she's probably at most only putting in a week or two worth of work a year total, it hardly even registers as a party time job in her case.

She didn't quit. She took a few years off to go to college back in the before times.
And I bet she even had the odd guest role here and there during that time.

Since we already covered the "stopped acting" issue for someone who's starred in like 3,000 Hallmark movies and a bunch of other stuff in the last 5 years, I'll just note that I love this woman, especially the math stuff, and point out that she spent the pandemic posting "work from home"/zoom meeting outfits on her social media: fancy tops with pajama bottoms.

To be fair, I'd rather deal with THAT DANICA...

The nerd one is way too smart for me, the one pictured is into driving cars at a good rate of speed, and she can tell stories about how much of a tool-box Aaron Rodgers is.

That seems fun.
