I've been playing the hell out of Crusader Kings III.

Now, I'd be remiss if I didn't teach you how to use that.

First, pick the ruler you want and click the Pastebin link underneath their portrait.

I'll use Mary, Queen of Scots as an example.
Scroll down on Pastebin and then click the little icon of the two pieces of paper as shown below:

Last weekend, Friday the 13th game was on sale for less than 4 dollars. So I bought it. Holy cow, I can't put it down now. It's so much more fun than I thought it would be. Plus, when people play they get excited and yelling into the mic.
Two kids were all "I'll save you, Ben!!" "No!! Just run, he's got me!" then later when the first kid was hitting Jason: "That's for my friend, Ben!!!"
I bet this game makes people rage-quit.

Finally got around to finishing Yakuza Like a Dragon. Holy Christ that end sequence goes on for f*cking ever. And then they make you sit through like 10 minutes of credits (unskippable) before another 20 minutes or so of end credits scenes. I like the game, but f*ck, man.

Been too nice out to game much.  Also picked ups some stupid new hobbies (Arduino, resin casting and 3d printing) that are cutting into my gaming time.

Finally got off the first island in Divinity Original Sin 2.  Haven't had much time or will to sit down with it since. Other than that just some Mechwarrior Online.  Still trying to get one of every mech.  I have about 10 left to get, mostly assaults and I hate playing slow mechs..

I almost never buy DLC.  I find that most 'content' dlc should usually be included with the main game and I don't give a rats ass about cosmetics.

If old school expansion packs count, then I guess it would have to be B-Wing, an expansion to the original X-wing game.  The DLC I actually want no one seems to make.  For example: I would totally pay for a bunch of single player content for Star Wars Squadrons.

Only played two games this week. First up, yet more Dragon Age Inquisition. Nothing with the main plot, but some of the companion quests, so I've been aiding Sera, Iron Bull, Varric, and finally:
Fark user imageView Full Size

Consummating the romance arc with Cassandra. Though that particular screenshot is NSFW because of topless characters, so the one above is slightly earlier in the quest.

The other game was Forza Horizon 4, because I wanted a fun racing game, and while this isn't the newest, it was easier to start unlocking cars, and as a displaced Brit, I liked the UK setting. Despite doing very badly in all the races so far (I think the best I've done is 10th out of 12), I was able to unlock stuff, including a stunt driver story, where I've:
Fark user imageView Full Size

Aside from that, I've unlocked one of my IRL dream cars (though it's not really that cool in the game), an E-Type:

Oh, and as I mentioned that I liked the setting:
Fark user imageView Full Size

That's the White Horse of Uffington, a place where I used to picnic all the time as a kid.

As to the side question, I don't really buy DLC since I tend to wait and get GOTY editions that already include it, and don't really need cosmetics. So by default, Elite Dangerous: Horizons wins because it's the only DLC I've bought as separate DLC.

So, here is what came in from Hong Kong:

I haven't charged it yet or anything as the 1 TB SD card didn't get here until today. HOWEVER, can anyone recommend a dead simple, hold your hand & a baby could follow this guide for building an Android image? I have a few handhelds but I never was good at this, I would just buy pre-made ones. But this time, I think I need to do it myself. (and yes, I know I have asked a similar question in the past but for a different OS. I just get very easily frustrated at times & I don't want almost $400 to gather dust).

As for the QOTW: I am not big on DLC purchases but when they released an "update" to UT2K3 to UT2K4, that was a huge deal as they changed/polished up a lot of things from one year to the next. Plus loading it with new maps, gameplay options & such made the $19.95 ($29.95 IIRC if you didn't already have UT2K3) a very easy buy.

Embracer bought a bit more than just LOTR. They also bought Limited Run Games, Tatsujin (the Toaplan studio), Bitwave & Gioteck. I swear, I wouldn't be shocked if they either keep buying up everyone or launch their own console at this point.

I was on holidays so I haven't been playing much in the last couple weeks.

I've dabbled with the GTAV:Online summer update. I like a lot of what they have added so far, not the least of which is the incredibly simple, but absolutely necessary ability to run in the casino and your nightclub and a few other indoor locations. I have already taken advantage of the 3X production and 2X money for MC Businesses. That was over $2 million in profit and only one sell mission was a pain in the ass. I could still do it for the weed farm, but that sell mission is ALWAYS horrible, so screw it.

I'm still waiting on my nightclub to produce a full batch of goods which I can then sell for double money, that will be another $2 million haul, which will partially offset the over $7 million I have spent on new vehicles released with this update.

As for DLC, I'd have to say that among the best is the Skyrim DLC of Dawnguard, Dragonborn, and Hearthfire. They are all included now in the Skyrim Special Edition, but I couldn't play Skyrim any other way. Of those, I'd say Dragonborn is tops, it was extremely well done.

Worst DLC I'd have to say The Lost and the Damned for GTAIV, I thought I would really like it, but it was terrible just like the rest of GTAIV.

Most of this week was taken up by a family trip to Silverwood, so gaming was limited. With that said, I did manage to complete Watch Dogs: Legion last weekend, then dabbled in some deck builders (One Step From Eden and Library of Ruina). I'm not sure deck builders are one of my genres.

Question of the week: Both directions go to Fallout DLCs. Dead Money and Old World Blues were great (Didn't get to Lonesome Road. One day I'll play through New Vegas again), while the Workshop DLCs for Fallout 4 were stupid.

I never got around to playing FO:NV, but Far Harbor for FO4 is my favorite DLC. The only thing I didn't like about it was the memory puzzle part. Even then, the first time playing it, it was a neat diversion from fetching shiny baubles for whomever offered the quest.

Gave Cult of the Lamb a quick tryout last night, about an hour in. I can see the beginnings of an enjoyable gameplay loop in there, but I think it's going to take just a little bit longer to fully get there.

Stop me if you've heard this one before, (cue everyone yelling STOP), it's a top down 3d roguelike with Zelda/BoI style combat with base building aspects. The unique aspect is the base building comes in the form of recruiting followers into your cult and turning them into Dungeon Keeper (or Oxygen Not Included) type drones. They gather materials or upgrade points for you to spend to level up your tech/skill trees, but you have to keep them fed and happy. I've heard about later in the game that you can have dissenters amongst your flock and can "reeducate" or other fun treatments, but I'm not that far in yet.

It's a fun start, with the one exception being the sound design. The music is atmospheric, but nothing special, and all of the dialog is portrayed with Peanuts adults womp womp sounds, but more obnoxious. I would almost recommend turning the sound off and listening to a podcast, except that you need to pay just enough attention to it that I think you would be too distracted.

Still just Terraria. But also played the demo for Everspace 2, and it gave me serious Freelancer nostalgia vibes, so now i'm embarking on a quest to do odd jobs  in order to scrounge enough money to maybe buy it at the end of the month, seeing as actually applying for jobs seems to do nothing, and my back is gonna hate me tomorrow morning because of the first bit done this morning.

Into the Breach released a big content update a few weeks back.  I'm trying to collect all the achievements.  It's a dangerous game for my zero-time lifestyle, since you can tell yourself you'll just play one five-minute round and find that you just wasted a whole hour on a full run.

Working through God of War.Fists only is rough for the first part but once you unlock the counter hits and higher level armor it gets significantly better.  I've tagged 3 valkyries and gotten a full mist set and I'm debating whether or not to grind for another day to max it out.  Abusing stun is hilarious because you can toss high lever druagr off cliffs for an easy kill when their health is still well over half and instakill weaker ones.  Also the grab and punch actions are all I-frames, so you get tons of free hits.  Streaming 12-2 and 3-5 EST on Twitch, channel is braininjuredgamer.

Was playing Dinkum until the most recent hotfix broke the recipe for kegs, just as I planned to build several more of them.  Now this recipe wants 5 palm wood planks + 1 metal bar + 4 MORE METAL bars.  Um, how about no.   There are a few other bugs that got introduced, but that one is grinding my gears.

Best DLC?  That'd be Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragon Keep for Borderlands 2.

Worst DLC?  That's Train Simulator, who must have something like $10,000 in available DLC.  Very exploitive.

Finished up Saints Row 3. I only have one achievement left and all I have to do is play for 2 hours as the opposite gender. So if I get some time this week it will be on to Saints Row 4! But I made the mistake of showing the wife that she can play Two Point Campus on the Xbox so...

D&D was called off last week due to host kids being sick. I also had a tummy bug on Sunday Night/Monday morning. Not fun.

QOTW: Best DLC I ever got has to be Borderlands 2: Tiny Tina. Worst DLC? The battle pass I bought for each one of my kids for Fortnight when they were still in to that game. Woo, cosmetics! >_<

I got back in to Alpha Centauri. My roommate, who usually plays third person action games on Stadia, has been hanging out with me all week and we're doing a multiplayer game. She's playing as the pirates. I'm the university. Right now she thinks she's winning because she has a lot more settlements than I do, but she's sparring with Miriam and I have an enormous tech advantage, Santiago in my pocket to keep Miriam off my back and my probe teams are doing good work on Lal's cities. I should wind up in a good place for a diplomatic victory while she's stuck squabbling, trying to play viking against the two factions with the biggest militaries, one of them working with my cast-off tech.

I'm going to go ahead and say the best "DLC" I ever bought was the Going Rogue expansion for City of Heroes, just because I enjoyed the new content so much. I can't think of any DLC I haven't enjoyed, but almost none of the games I play have any.

2022-08-19 10:16:50 AM
Speedran the bosses I needed to set my maiden on fire in Elden Ring after 100%ing Spongebob BfBB. Need to go back and play some games I installed but have never touched since then. Also I forgot how big the damn castle is in the Ninja chapter in Live A Live. Best DLC I ever got? The Artorias of the Abyss DLC was great, even if it made the base Dark Souls game on console an even bigger twinking invader nightmare. Worst DLC? The numerous "special" weapon DLCs for Dead Space 2.

Karma Chameleon: Blood and Wine is obviously the best DLC. This isnt even a debate.

Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragon Keep (as mentioned by several other people already) would argue with that.

I've been playing Vampire Survivors, I have pretty much everything unlocked except for beating the skull ball in the "Bone Zone". I keep trying once a day, but still no luck yet. Played a little bit of art of rally which is a beauty of a game. It's not the most realistic, in fact I'd argue it's far from that, but it plays nice and is a very zen like experience.

I've also been playing a bit of Madden 23.Now, what's interesting is this is one of those good Madden updates. The game runs amazingly well and is gorgeous. You can also tell that the team has gotten very familiar with the engine, the player animations are spectacular, the AI is better than before and it feels the most natural that Madden has ever felt.

I also just noticed that The Ascent has released a new DLC - literally yesterday called "cyber heist" I'm gonna have to play that. I love that game.

Best DLC is probably one of the Fallout DLC's. I can't pick which, but most of the FO3 DLC's were decent.

I fired up the old PlayStation 2 this week...and realized just how much I missed it. And Steel Lancer Arena International is underrated as hell. And Def Jam: Fight for NY is fun even after all these years, and a reminder of why I liked the Yukes-developed WWF (then E?) games rather than 2K.

And can we PLEASE get an Armored Core game in which the legs actually matter other than determining the upper limit for weapons!? Other than that, they're just there to look good because you have to boost to get fecking anywhere anyway...

Side note: the best DLC for me was Lonesome Road from Fallout: New Vegas. You don't feel like the world ended long ago, you really are walking through the aftermath of the Apocalypse itself (but I'm too much of a coward to attempt the Courier's Mile). Plus I liked Ulysses.

Worst DLC was...also from Fallout: New Vegas. Dead Money was just not fun. It set up Lonesome Road quite nicely in the ending sequence. When I came back to the bunker after finishing the DLC, I tried blowing up the radio.

Do expansion packs that predate content being downloadable count?  If so, Throne of Bhaal, Brood War, and Yuri's Revenge would all like a word too.

Monster Hunter -- Rise: Sunbreak. That's the answer to both questions: I'm playing the crap out of it, and it is one of the best DLCs I've seen. Honorable mention goes to MHWorld: Iceborne, for the same reasons. Smashing monsters in the face is fun, and Capcom continues to add more and more stuff to the DLC: new monsters, new items, entire new farm/grind loops, etc. Worth every penny.

I finished Days Gone this past week, and am just doing post-game horde clean-up.  It was absolutely fantastic.  At times it gets repetitive or tedious in terms of resource collection, but it has enough meat those activities as well that it's not so bad.  The story is very well done.  I looked it up while I was playing and found out that the sequel was cancelled.  I was more than a little disappointed.

I'll be buying Spider-Man for the PC later today, I think.  My son finished it on PS4 - but I just don't like the gamepad for anything other than sports games.

In terms of DLC - it's not that common that I'll buy a game so new that I purchase the DLC after - most of the time the game is old enough that the DLC is bundled with it.  Probably the best DLC I've come across are the XCom and XCom 2 expansions in terms of additional and variable game play added.  The Witcher 3 was ridiculously good and deep and the expansions for it added a ton to the game - but again with The Witcher, by the time I was playing it, I had to go look up which parts had been added by the DLC that came with the bundle.

I will buy the Cyberpunk DLC when (or if) it comes out, but I have a feeling it likely won't add enough to significantly change the overall experience.  I was one of the people who very much liked the game and played it through with different builds and different starting paths different genders and so on.  I probably played it through about 5 or 6 times, but the last couple of times I modded things so I didn't need to grind as much.

I don't think you can really count things like Train Sim / Flight Sim DLCs in the same way you count DLC for other games.  Very few people actually buy all of them; they're special items for the simmers who are particularly interested in those particular things.  Not having the DLCs won't change your game experience in any way.  It's not exploitative; it's just selling to a niche market.

The worst for me would be the Sims... especially Sims 3 and ESPECIALLY especially Sims 4, where each DLC introduces at most 1 new gameplay loop and a handful of build items for anywhere up to full-game retail price.  In those cases not having the DLCs is highly detrimental to your game experience; it is entirely exploitative.

Paradox Interactive is moving that way as well unfortuantely, as each DLC changes the game mechanics significantly, and the base game patches can't keep up, so the further behind you fall in DLC the worse your game experience becomes.  EU4 is really bad for this; HOI4 might well be even worse.  CK3 is new enough it hasn't become an issue yet, but it definitely was by the end ofark2's development.

So just been Mass Effect 2 (Legendary Edition) and Forza Horizon 5 this week.

So DLC?  Best:  Mass Effect 3 Citadel DLC.  Worst Mass Effect 3: Leviathan. Now I should explain the latter.  I don't think I'd ever been so pissed at DLC prior to that because that was highly needed exposition and should have been part of the main farking game.   Now I understand this is how they monetize this crap, but I was so mad.
