Haha nice...

Reminds me of the time that the Steelers' punt just stuck in the mud (turf)....

Heywood: [Hayes has just reached on an infield single] You really knocked the crap out of that one.
Willie Mays Hayes: Oh, I plan to get at least a double out of this.
[shows Heywood his black gloves]
Willie Mays Hayes: I bought a hundred of these. One for every base I'm gonna steal. Excuse me while I take my first step toward the Hall of Fame.
Heywood: My ass.
Harry Doyle: [Hayes takes his lead off first base] We don't know where Hayes played last year, but I'm sure he did a hell of a job.
Heywood: Real hard to steal second with your shoe untied.
Harry Doyle: [Hayes looks down, then gets thrown out by the pitcher] Throw to first... Hayes is picked off! Personally, I think we got hosed on that call.

Wouldn't that be a ground-rule automatic double, like a ball that gets stuck in the ivy at Wrigley?

// technically an "automatic" double, as it's wouldn't be a park-specific rule (aka a "ground rule") that governs an idiosyncrasy of a specific park, like the Wrigley ivy or the catwalks at Tropicana
// per wiki: "MLB rules 5.05(a)(6) through 5.05(a)(9) ... govern how to treat the batter (and any runners on base) when a batted ball is hit fair but passes out of the field of play or becomes artificially obstructed while in the field of play"

Only if the ball is unplayable, which it wasn't in this case. The catcher picked up the ball and tagged the batter out while he stood there.

They are, after all, the Mud Hens, not the Firm Ground Hens.

This, came to say don't be surprised when a ball at a Mud Hens game gets stuck in the mud.
