(Major League Baseball)   Similar to how Tigers' season as a whole has gone, they manage to strike out the first three Guardians batters in the 8th but then proceed to give up six runs in the inning   (mlb.com) divider line

If that Jays/Red Sox game didn't happen this would easily be the most embarrassing game of the season.

While channel-surfing, I checked on this game and it was still in the early innings and the Tigers had just scored and the Tigers' announcers were talking about how despite their record the players were still battling, still competing, etc.

I have no idea what they said during that 8th inning, but I'm sure they sounded like their souls had been crushed. Again.

A friend's kid once struck out 4 in a travel baseball inning.  Not too shabby.  Still, an infinite amount fewer than he theoretically could have struck out.

If you were listening to the TV announcers, their tone of voice probably didn't change one bit. They're awful. Awful broadcasters to match an awful team.

Never quite understood the whole "dropped third strike" thing.

/a Dodger pitcher (Chris Martin) struck out four people in one inning a couple days ago

there are several broadcast crews that i hate when i have to listen to them and the tigers are one of them.  they have a bunch of guys that seem to rotate in and out and they all suck and/or are annoying

the third strike is an out like other outs in the field and the catcher is credited with a putout for catching it, like a first baseman catching a ball at first base thrown by another fielder.

if the first baseman drops the ball there is no out, same with the catcher not catching the third strike.  the batter can still be put out before he reaches first

In MLB it has become fairly common since the late '90s.
