New York and New Jersey I can believe, but I didn't think Delaware was that bad.

Wow. I had no idea there were only ten states.

NH has "spread-out civilization"?  Check out some of the big, rectangular states some time.

Weirdly, I found New Yorkers very helpful and friendly. Their customer service leaves much to be desired, but regular people were nice when I visted.

New Mexico?!  What did they do, hang out in SW Albuquerque and that's it?

Maybe they're upset that every non-Starbucks coffee place in the state is a drive thru.

Now rank them if you are not white hetero fake Christian.

I feel like by August people in Delaware are just tired of vacationers.  Doesn't the population nearly double between June and September?  From October to start of summer it's probably quite pleasant.

List sounds like it was written by the stereotypical ugly tourist.

Be nice and polite with the locals while on vacation and they'll respond in kind.

Go in with the attitude that the locals owe you something bc you are kind enough to spend money there and they're going to be rude.

"Arkansas is a friendly state if-and emphasis on if-you're local. Visitors might feel like they don't quite fit in and are unwelcome."

Not fitting in and feeling unwelcome in Arkansas means you're doing it right.

That superficial friendly small talk crap you get in Texas and places like that isn't actually friendly. And, in my experience, half the time they're gonna ask you to join their church in the second sentence.

/It's always fun to say you're Jewish to those folks. Their eyes get all big, like you're gonna use the blood of all three of their children to make matzoh ball soup.

Article is about unfriendly states, only talks about NYC in the NY entry.

I agree with you. New Yorkers (as in NYC) are indeed helpful and friendly, they're just not patient. Don't dawdle and get to the point. I loved the time I spent living there.

Upstate NY is racist Trump country, so ranking is still accurate.

#1: New Mexico.

HAHAHAHAHAH

I live on Santa Fe, and work in Los Alamos.

Know who doesn't have social good graces? Scientists and engineers. I mean sorry to paint with a broad brush but it's true. And you cannot throw a rock in this state without hitting a physicist and having them tell you the trajectory.

I live in a Detroit suburb and work in Detroit.  I grew up on the east side of Detroit, and lived there for 50 years.  I find that people in Detroit are very friendly.  Smile and say hello or good morning and most of the time they smile and respond.

But in the rural areas, I have found that some people are suspicious and unfriendly to people outside their community.  My parents retired and moved to a farming area 50 miles north of Detroit and the people up there can be very unfriendly.  Once you get to know them, they are not bad, but it takes years to be accepted.

New Mexico State's first graduate was killed in a gunfight the same day he received his degree (or so I've read).

When I lived there in the 70s, I packed a magnum under each arm when I went out.
It was a beautifully frightening place

Honestly on idea but I would not be shocked.

Los Alamos, and a good bit of Santa Fe, are pretty safe. The first because it's basically government property, the second because it's bougie (in some areas). Oh your catalytic converter are still up for sacrifice but that's just the whole state. Buy an anti-theft device.

ABQ, oh boy all bets are freaking off. I keep to main shopping districts if I'm there.

Delaware gets to deal with all the beach tourists and entitled "I don't want to have to pay sales tax to lord over employees" types.

So I can kinda understand

this - people in the city used to be (been a few years) friendlier and quicker to start a conversation than in L.A. where people are wary about talking to each other.

Yep.
Having grown up in small town WV I can assure you the friendliness of southerners is a veneer, you're always being judged, and number one is to talk the right Jesus talk.

Okay with the caveat that I moved here end of 2018 and I am really, reeeaally white:  yes. Dear gods the Zia symbol thing? Ahahahahah. This is so accurate. Well, to the ABQ area anyways.

Define Upstate.  Buffalo, Rochester and most other urban areas are definitely anti-Trump.

Well, yeah. The urban areas are good, but like any other state, once outside the cities, it's pretty red.
