Maybe because I haven't finished my first cup of coffee yet, but that article seemed to randomly switch between talking about the Arcturus and the Belgorod.

They keep using the term "underwater drones", but what they describe sounds like a torpedo.

So stealthy that it doesn't actually exist outside of the computer rendering....

/ also...if it has props or machinery...you can hear it.

You can't call improving a thing that already exists the name it has always had. That's too confusing.

IF it's real, I give it 4 months before it's sitting at the bottom of the ocean, spewing radioactive material. They "released" this because they need the propaganda bump, not because it's "ready". Guarantee half the systems don't work right yet, and most of the crew probably hasn't been trained.

Good. Build them. Build dozens of them.

Russia's economy is failing; they cannot spend on par with China or the US. Subs are great for sneak attacks but you can't hold land with them and the last time I checked, the purpose of a war was to take and hold land. Every red cent they waste on crap like this and their other "wonder weapons" is one less cent they have to pay their troops, buy them food and ammunition and fuel, and so on, which are the things you really need if you want to wage war and be successful. Just like the Soviets did, Russia will spend themselves into bankruptcy on crap and hopefully when it happens and the people rise up against the government like they seem to do every 50-100 years in Russia, this time they'll finally get their shiat together and actually become productive members of the global society instead of the farking pieces of shiat they are and historically have been.

Perhaps it has changed, but when I was on submarines, the primary signature of Russian subs was from the planetary gears for the main propulsion.  Second was the electrical generators. We virtually never went active on sonar, which is when these stealth features would make a difference.

I thought their own torpedos blowing off the bows of their subs made them easy to track.

Russia always says they have super advanced cutting edge weapons that are about to come out real soon now.

Meanwhile the actual weapons they actually field are rusted piles of junk.

This article is a mess.  A mess of bullshiat.

FTA: The Belgorod - which at 604ft is the longest sub ever built in the world - is claimed to be ready to enter service after successful trials.

The proposed new vessel is 439ft long, 51ft wide and is designed to carry a crew of 100.

Make up your mind.  Is it 604 ft or 439ft?  Is it ready to enter service or is it proposed?  It's like they aren't even trying anymore.

2022-08-18 11:52:39 AM
The article was written confusingly. This appears to be a concept for a future sub, which they confused in the article for the sea trials of their newest sub, the Belograd, which is their current design. I doubt naval planners are freaking out.

1. Good luck building any time in the foreseeable future with those sanctions in place.
2. Good luck keeping your most modern current subs operating well with those sanctions in place.
3. Nobody with half a brain is all that concerned with Russian military advances - it's pretty clear from how catastrophically their newest weapons are failing when put to the test in Ukraine that they've been living on a borrowed reputation from the past that's no longer relevant.
4. All they have to rely on is the Zap Brannigan strategy - throw waves and waves of soldiers at a problem.

2022-08-18 11:57:00 AM
Technically since we exist in a computer simulation and we are destined to create our own hi-def computer simulation of our reality it is quite clear that the Russians will DOMINATE in this new virtual world with this very awesome computer model of what looks to be an unbeatable piece of virtual military tech.

Therefore we should just give up now.

2022-08-18 11:57:06 AM
If we've learned anything from this stupid war, it's that the Russians can think up any super weapon, sea of tanks, or strategy. And there will be three or four career officers ready to dismantle it and pocket the rubles.

They are no longer a threat. I hope Russia gets divided up by its neighbors and a Ukraine entrepreneur teams up with Starbucks to start a chain of coffee houses in Crimea called "Kremlin Cafe."

2022-08-18 11:57:19 AM
Add that to the list of vaporware that Russia says it will do, but can't actually afford.

I've never watched the Tucker Carlson guy, I guess because he went to a rival school, but is that the face that the meme came from, or does he just always make that same face?  It seems like I've seen multiple stills of him making that same stupid face.

Soooo...if they have such cool toys why aren't they winning in Ukraine? Do those drones fly out and then smack back in to the sub again? Not even going to guess how those nuclear missiles will fly after seeing some of their equipment in action.
