I'm a screamer, so that was always the case.

I have imagined that an electric car would be a hazard to cats and dogs who like to lay under cars and children who might play behind them. at least the engine gives some notice when the car is started and some warning to anything under or behind the vehicle.

I think releasing a few hundred volts to ground should clear them out right quick.

The air conditioner in my car is louder than the motor it's freaky.

Almost every single farker I know that drives a Dodge seems to get the loudest aftermarket pipes they can possibly find.  I love it when they peel out of the parking lot so they can drive away at 25 mph because we're on a goddamn air force base.

Also destroyer grey is a bland, stupid color for a car and I hate it.

this is dumb.  making your car noisy on purpose is dumb.

its like using a leaf blower instead of a broom, because being courteous is for libs and betas.  so dumb

If they have wi-fi/bluetooth, can they be hacked to make the Jetson's flying car sound instead, pissing off the owners?

I drive a Dodge (Grand Caravan) and while I appreciate the power to get up to highway speeds reasonably quickly, I have no need for the engine to be at all loud.

It would be nice if electric cars meant that roads were quiet.

Make a ton of noise. A Hummer is 9000lbs and can hit 0-60 in 3 seconds. Do you really want that thing to be quiet?

Yeah but at least they know there's no "e" in "noisy"

It would be, but for the vast majority of vehicles the noise of the tires on the road is louder than the engine/exhaust.  This is especially true on highways.

Actually

I want it to be off the highways.

Join the Army if you like driving those things.

This isn't new.  BMW pipes in engine sounds on their non-electric and electric vehicles, mercedes has fake engine noise in their EVs, and even Harley-davidson's electric motorcycle makes a "turbine sound" to alert pedestrians.  Tesla has fake engine noise as an option, I believe.

Most of those are for the listening pleasure of the driver and passengers, but why not pipe it to outside of the vehicle as well.

Because when you're a lion, you don't need to tell anyone you're a lion.

Posers gonna pose.

EVs do pipe some sound to the outside of the vehicle for safety at slow speeds where tire noise isn't enough. Its a kind of whirring noise.

The noise is produced by baffles inside air intake tubes. The baffles are made of baseball cards. High end models use actual George Brett and Robin Yount rookie cards.

I see I'm not the only one who made that connection.

A couple of weeks ago, I was helping at our local National Night Out, and some corvette club had showed up... and as they left, a few of them were revving their engines to see who could be the biggest asshole, I guess.

I shouted "I'm sorry about your penis!", but I doubt any of them heard me.

A few people around me laughed, though
