I have questions.   Not sure where the possible crater is beyond West Africa***.  65 million years ago the Atlantic was a lot smaller.  Was this near the spreading ridge?

If the author meant the actual geographic region known today as West Africa, the baby Atlantic was very, very small in that area.

They dont have the date nailed down yet subby. They need to drill into it to figure that out. Right now the range they are ok with is plus or minus a million years from the dino comet. Once they have a solid figure on the date it will possibly lead to lots of interesting things

FTFA: "No, it's not that asteroid, the one that doomed the dinosaurs to extinction".  This documentary states that THAT asteroid was 6 miles wide.

I like the illustrations that are used for illustrating this type of story of dinosaurs futilely screaming their defiance.

I wouldn't be surprised if it is connected to the Chicxulub event. The ages are within error and on a similar enough latitude to be plausable. I'm definitely looking forward to more research.
