Wow, I knew they were working on an official Texas Chainsaw Massacre game, but had no idea they had snagged a Ghostbusters license deal, as well.

Ahh, I remember working for Epic (Mega)Games way back in the day when they were first developing the Unreal Engine. I suggested including a weapon "like the positron glider from Ghostbusters," and Cliffy said, "No, that weapon is stupid."

Twenty-four years later, there's a positron glider in the Unreal Engine! I finally have the last laugh.

I saw the word "multiplayer" and noped right out.

I mean, great for those of you who like that sort of thing, but I never know how much time I have to game - it might be two hours, it might be five minutes. That makes multiplayer impossible.

That, and I like story and character development more than anything else, so ...

Hmm I stopped at "asymmetric"

Have any of those worked? I think the one game that people actually liked got dropped by the publishers or developers or something and everyone got pissed off? I could just be imagining things... I think I've forgotten more games than I've owned

I regret to inform you that you've been calling a "positron collider" a "positron glider" for a very, very long time.

Was the Gluon Gun from HL a joke to him?

Yup.  Getting older sucks.  I have cool family dynamic because all of my adult kids and my brother game with me once/ week.  Usually something low impact, survival-themed like Valheim.  Something that has enough options to do more than grind mobs.

But unscheduled gaming is practically impossible, especially multiplayer games.

You're not totally imagining things. The same developer did Friday the 13th the game which was also an asymmetrical multiplayer game. The servers got shut down and it went to peer-to-peer with future content plans dropped due to a ongoing battle from the rights holders over who actually holds the rights to Friday the 13th. People weren't pleased but overall reception to the game was positive.

They'll probably do a great job on it, but asymmetrical multiplayer isn't my jam.

The original Unreal beat Half-Life to the market by about six months.

I came in to say just that A Ghostbusters game could be fun (I never played the last one) but if I wanted to deal with other people I wouldn't be home playing video games. They're probably mostly kids and teens too. That part is my fault for not growing up.

/actually don't even play video games much anymore
//not because I grew up

I like the idea, but wish it was closer to Phasmaphobia than Dead by Daylight.

Ghostbusters MMO? Hard pass.

I'm just here to say the Ghostbusters pinball is surprisingly fun.

I love the Epic Game store. I got the games Control, and GTA V for free through Epic. Same for Watch Dogs. I paid $15 for Control's DLC, and so far it's worth it.

All of this. I play online with my kids, Borderlands and Baldur's Gate (So it's really co-op), but otherwise, I don't play online because of that. It could be two minutes or 6 hours. Plus, also, no real story. Although, I really like how Borderlands did their co-op, because you're just playing the single player campaign of whoever hosted the game, so all of the development and story is still there.

Yeah, not sure what subby is going on about, but I've gotten a metric ass-ton of great free shiat from Epic.

"Jump in" co-op is a great thing for people like us. It keeps all the benefits of a good single-player story and adds decent multiplayer for those who want it. SW:TOR was (and may be still, I haven't played in long while) an MMO that did a good job of this - you could play the entire storyline for your class solo, or you could partner with a friend.

A Ghostbusters game would be lots of fun. Lots of options for gameplay and story telling .

A Ghostbusters MMO doesn't make sense. Maybe if the players are the ghost and they are running from the Ghostbusters.

I picked up Ghostbusters Remastered for free on Epic and would rather just play that. Most of my attempts at playing multiplayer were pretty meh.... except for Mass Effect 3. Good lord did I love that.
