Great initial episode. It's not afraid to be silly, but still retains enough story and action. Great sequences, tight storytelling (only 30 minutes), and some fun comedic moments.

I love that the fourth wall breaks were kept from the comics.

I really liked it, except... uhh, help me out, nerds, who was the crappy-looking lady villain who broke in at the end there?  She looks like crap and I'm really hoping she's not a main character.

The lead is a bit perky for me. I always read Jen as dry and snarky, not "OMGLOL!" It works for what it is, I suppose.

Also that was some high-speed handwaving on why she can control her transformations (comics Jen didn't change back) but again, for what it is I s'pose.

I wish they'd introduce molecule man, especially the secret wars version.  nothing like a schlubby nervous nerdy type being one of the most powerful villains ever.

Fun show! Anyone else feel bad for Hulk? They really went hard with the he's  alone now vibe. I'm sure the reason they got into a car crash isn't going to affect this in any way

People biatching about the fourth wall breaks need to get over it. She Hulk has been doing it since the 80s. It's not something Deadpool made up, although his reasons are much more in his character. Joker does it too.  I guess what I'm saying is, the only reason any of us exist is because we perceive Franklin Richards.

phlegmjay: Comics Jen could control her transformations.

Comics Jen actively felt more secure as the 7' tall, invulnerable Hulk. Pre-Hulking, Jennifer was a kind of mousy and shy person. Once she publicly became She-Hulk, there just wasn't much reason to spend time in that form.
Dan Slott did use the idea that her working out in her nonpowered form could result in a major power-up for her transformed self, but it's rare for her to spend much time as a non-green person.

I haven't seen it yet, I'm assuming they use color correction to avoid all the men and women fighting over who gets to paint her up.

I think the opposing attorney has good grounds for a mistrial. Having one side's lawyer save the lives of everyone in the courtroom might bias the jury.

And i know Banner said you had to have the right genetics, but dammit I there are three women justices on SCotUS who should be made into she-hulks. For the love of God, just try.  Maybe insert some genetically engineered cell to give it more of a chance.

I think Howard the Duck is the only comics character that did it sooner.

I actually saw someone in a review screaming like an infant about how the show is copying Fleabag.

Absolutely. I was just pointing out that in the comics (at least after the first few issues), Jen wasn't stuck in Hulk form. She could and often did change back. IIRC, her making the choice to stay mostly in Hulk form even came quite a few years later... in the late 90s(?)

Agreed that she always had the ability to transform at will and that she preferred being She-Hulk. She lost her ability to change back to normal in her graphic novel. Reed Richards had to give her the news.

As long as it isn't like that late 90's or 2000's Marvel cartoon where they depicted her like Mae West. Just because she was a large superpowered woman, she was apparently always horney and spoke in almost constant sexual innuendo.

Apparently written and voiced by people who had no knowledge of the character.

I'm in. Question: Why do I find her more sexy in Shulkie form than a human? Discuss.

It's a solid first episode regardless of preconceived notions. I collected late 80s/early 90s She-Hulk both when she had her own limited and when she was traipsing about with Reed and the gang. Given the timeframe I was mostly interested in her...artwork...but the character drew me in during refractory periods. I'm pro-She-Hulk is what I'm saying, creepily.

Shulkie still has amplified emotions, even if she controls them much better than Bruce Banner. She sometimes makes bad decisions, but delights in her body and what it can do. Sometimes she's super horny and also usually single. She's definitely on the more active side of the spectrum, along with Jessica Jones, Daredevil, Wolverine and Iron Man.

In the comics it was handled well most the time, in those cartoons, it wasn't.
They did stop short of her dry humping furniture though.

Haven't watched it yet and won't be able to for a few weeks (my wife likes to let episodes build up to binge watch).

Have they fixed the bad CGI, uncanny valley problem with She Hulk's appearance from the first trailer?

Yeah, I didn't figure Steve Rogers got laid until he stayed back in time and married middle-aged Peggy.  Unless Natasha threw him a pity boink sometime between Winter Soldier and Civil War.  But maybe young Peggy jumped him on a USO tour?  It should be Peggy because he marries her later and that fits his wholesome motif.

Cap doesn't seem like the type to do anything casual with Natasha because 1) she's a friend and 2) in Age of Ultron he encouraged her and Banner to get together. There's no way he'd violate those relationships.

As for him getting with Peggy during a USA tour I doubt it because it appears as if they hadn't seen each other between the time he changed and when she showed up in Europe.

Him losing it to a USO dancer seems possible (he is only human after all) but I bet he mooned over her afterwards and then felt guilty.

Worth mentioning that Steve was fully intent on giving the Star-Spangled Banner to Peggy's grandniece. AFTER the funeral. "Wholesome" might be pushing it. Let the man get it in.

Just as a break from the ongoing completely off topic discussion, and as a counter to the mention of She-Hulk as a fan service book, the John Bryne era She-Hulk always treated her career as a lawyer as a front and center element of her comic. She still practiced law throughout her comics, even when she was an Avenger or a member of the Fantastic Four.  She was always treated as an independent and liberated woman whose adventures often passed the Bechdel test.

Another thing I really liked about the Bryne run was that he drew her in full, contemporary fashion. Jennifer Walters dressed like a successful professional. It's a detail that a lot of readers might've missed, but I happen to have a cousin who was a working attorney in the late 80s, and it was remarkable at the time to see something other than the extremely generic clothing most artists would've drawn. I've been a fan of this character for a long time and when I tell people that, I'm used to hearing about the T&A aspects and having to argue that she's always been more. Better writers and artists have recognized that, and I'm glad they're taking her down that route in the MCU as well.
