(Yahoo)   Patrick Reed filed a lawsuit against the Golf Channel and commentator Brandel Chamblee, claiming that the two "conspired" with the PGA Tour to defame him. Um...don't you have to have fame first, Patrick?   (sports.yahoo.com) divider line

Also, is it bad if your lawyer cheered on the behavior you now claim is defamatory?

I'm sure Klayman thoughtfully recon$idered his position.

The best part about the LIV tour is that every golfer that signs with them is off the PGA Tour, and I don't ever have to see them again. The only one I'm even going to halfway miss is Ian Poulter, and he's old. But the LIV crowd are, almost to a man, the guys I hated watching.

All these guys signed for exorbitant sums of money, but it sounds like it's being paid over time in exchange for multi-year commitments by the players. So what happens if next year LIV decides no one is buying this and decides to fold the tour? Are the players going to sue the Saudi government for breach of contract? Good luck with that!

Jeez this.  It's a bunch of old guys plus Patrick Reed, who no one likes, and Bryson and Brooks who are annoying jocks who had a "rivalry" that was mostly them just bro-ing at each other.

And Reed has that wife of his.  She was complaining that Tiger was getting secret course notes before the PGA Championship because she saw him chatting with a greenskeeper.  I guess she was shocked that Tiger would talk to a poor.

The Saudis can throw gobs of money at this for decades.  Their wealth is just unreal.  They lost billions on WeWork.

For it to be defamation, it has to be untrue.

I'm not contemplating them running out of money, just them saying that no one is really interested in this so it isn't serving the purpose of sportswashing so they just move on to something else.

Eh, the LIV tour lost its reason to exist when the FBI went into Mar-A-Lago. And, yes, I'm claiming that the Royal House of Saud spent a billion dollars to create a competing golf tour simply so they could have the season-ending tournament at Doral, providing a plausible reason for them to stay at Trump's house where they'd then be able to abscond with Top Secret documents about the US nuclear program without arousing suspicion.

Or is that too Oliver Stone?

I want to say no, but the past few years have been pretty surreal, so nothing would shock me anymore

Not at all.  It's all too believable in the current timeline.

Some background on Reed's wife for those who might not know.

Most of the LIV players I won't miss, a couple I will, but I hope someone plants some hash in Reed's bag and he get the ride the Turkish Express

He has a punchable face. And he cheats. Cheaters need to be punched in the face. Since he should already be punched in the face, daily, because he has a punchable face, a daily kick to the nads should be substituted in lieu of a second punch to the face.

Well, with that Saudi money; Reed will be able to pay his "lawyer" and the lawyers for Chamblee and NBC Comcast when the judge rules against him because there's no way he's winning this case. You can't be defamed by something that is proven to be a fact.

If that happens, grab some popcorn. The LIV guys will have to come back to the PGA hat in hand. Ordinarily that might not be too big of a deal but most of these guys are colossal douchebags and if I were the PGA, I'd laugh and give them the finger. Of course there will be law suits but the courts are - at least for now - siding with the PGA basically saying, "hey, you voluntarily left the PGA to reap a huge windfall ergo the PGA owes you nothing".

That's been my theory all along with the Piss Boy at the center of it - he's in hock to the Saudis way over his head.
