that particular scene, its pretty awfully directed, but i still maintain that the irishman is the great sendoff for all three of them.  For once, a mob movie shows the sad end for anyone who lived through it without getting capped.

The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle was a truly awful film, but DeNiro's wonderful reprise of "You talkin' to me?" was one of the very few good moments.

Great actor, but honestly, my favorite roles for him are where he's not playing the faceless asshole thug gangster.

His role in Sleepers as a priest was excellent with a strong supporting cast, as well as the action role for Ronin. De Niro has also knocked comedy roles out with Meet the Parents, and especially as the pirate captain in Stardust.

Always a great character actor.

He's generally great in everything, but I *love* Midnight Run. DeNiro (Jack Walsh) and Charles Grodin (Jonathon Mardukas) were perfect in those roles. This exchange is etched into my brain, I use the "here come two words for you" line all the time.

Jonathan Mardukas:I just asked you if you were hurt and you said "Yeah, I'm hurt."
Jack Walsh:That's because you made me say that.
Jonathan Mardukas:Jack, you're a grown man. You're in control of your own words.
Jack Walsh:You're goddamn right I am. Now here come two words for you: Shut the f*** up.

Put DeNiro (and Al Pacino FTM) in bubble wrap - we've lost a good number of actors in mafia movies in 2022.

I had to look it up, but Joe Pesci is six months older than DeNiro. He should also be bubble wrapped.

I saw it for the first time, this year.  Considering myself a movie, guy, kinda weird it took me that long.  Great chemistry amongst the cast.

I remember seeing it in the theater when it came out, and thinking it was okay. I was 15.

About  a year ago, I re-watched it for the first time since then. And...it's boring-as-hell, the comedy is stale, and nothing surprising or interesting happens. It's a big pile of cliches, basically. It's like a made-for-TV movie with overpowered acting talent.

Anyway, I remembered why I hadn't bothered to watch it in 33 years.

Well... i know people who adore the film as some type of cult classic, and in that vein, i felt it is a bit over-rated, but i frequently find myself being too critical here on fark, and so i didn't want to go that route...    I felt it was enjoyable, and its always interesting to see DeNiro use method acting, even for such a basic character.

Apparently, he built up a whole big backstory about his watch, in his mind, so that it carried significance when he discussed it during the film.

The talkin to the mirror scene is most famous, but for me the scene where he seeks Peter Boyle's advice about the "bad thoughts" he's been having is one of the all time great, subtle performances. He amazing hinting at the haunted exhaustion behind the coming madness.

Upon release, i was a bit dissapointed in Casino that it was so derivative.  I felt Marty near invented a genre with Goodfellas, but then aped the exact same thing for Casino.

However, revisiting it nearly 30 years later, its such a gorgeous looking film, i'm able to appreciate it on its own.  Scorcese's aesthetic is actually improved in the latter film.

Well said.

Back in 2018 I visited Idle Spurs...the bar that Sam and Nicky had to go to for a discussion because the latter had been banned from all casinos.  It's way out in BFE.

/Wondered how many bodies were buried in that area.
