Yeah, yeah. It's on my to-play list along with a ton of other games. Good games come out much faster than I can play them. Some of my backlog's on the farking PlayStation 2.

Finally got around to Prey, which Epic gave me for free some time back. Mediocre action, but that's true of every System Shock type game except maybe Bioshock 3, which not-coincidentally is arguably not even in that narrow sub-genre at all. Difficulty curve is totally farked. Solid story and some nice environments, though.

Replaying the Deus Exen. On Human Revolution. Had to skip 2 for now because I somehow don't have a downloadable copy and god knows where the disks went. May do Project Snowblind for the first time after I'm done.

Also working on Stanley Parable Ultra Deluxe. Played the original but so long ago that I just told it I was a new player, when it asked. New content's really good.

After that... probably the new Horizon Zero Dawn.

I'd play Nier after that, except by then BOTW 2 will probably be out. So.

Unless it's the masterpiece of fantasy storytelling from Lucasfilms™ Brian Moriarty™! Why it's an extraordinary adventure with an interface of magic, stunning high-resolution, 3D landscapes, sophisticated score and musical effects. Not to mention the detailed animation and special effects, elegant point 'n' click control of characters, objects, and magic spells.

I mean, sure, it sounds funny, but, I've started to embrace the same idea because, quite frankly, Steam and crypto ruined that whole "gotta play the latest on the latest" for me.

Look how long it took to make No Man's Sky playable. Cyberpunk 2077's still not playable. Steam's flooded with 'early access' farmers hoping to make money without actually having to crank out a finished game. Never mind trying to buy hardware in a pandemic-laden world full of crypto assholes who've driven GPU prices past the point of insanity even as games require the very chips & cards sitting in "FAKE MONEY GO BRRRRR!" cargo containers on some dude's hill.

It's easier at this point to simply play the older games that I've missed than it is to buy both new games and new hardware. I'm happy to wait; it's not like I have a peer group who'll shame me should I not play the latest & greatest.

Good news, because Yoko Taro hates the people who play his games, he uses multiple types of media to tell various parts of the story, from the new ending E that is part of the Replicant remake which was only told as a short story to the final ending of Automata being depicted in a stage play. Not even getting into all the light novels/short stories that are set in the Drakengard/Drag-on Dragoon universe that also ties into the Nier universe from one of the joke endings. And as usual Taro fare, it is all depressing and nihilistic in several facets.

Don't forget that the drakenguard tie in then is used to tie in nier automata into the world of eorzea in ff14, and has the iirc canon ending to the game in one of the best raids in the game, with mechanics that somehow feel at home in both universes.

I also seriously don't know how they took nier's music and made it mesh completely with ff tunes and sound amazing but they did it.

Well, except it isn't entirely nihilistic. Both ending E of Automata and the new ending for Replicant offer a glimmer of hope.

The "new" ending of Replicant was canon to Automata and all those Replicants are dead come the alien invasion.

Same here. Bought the PS4 after the PS5 came out, and played x-com.2 for a solid 6 months of joy. I don't co-op or pvp, and the games are new to me.

I also started watching Schitt's Creek when I saw the series had ended. No waiting for next season.

I don't quite get the gushing praise for the Nier raids. The music is fine, and the mechanics are interesting and unique enough to stand out for the most part, but the level design is just... bland? Well, particularly the last raid.

I'm too farking old for games that make microtransactions part of their own farking story. DLC lore dumps, multiversing, and sidequests for minor characters that need to be as epic as the main story are farking exhausting.

The game has a story that ends and begins, the multimedia thing is purely because Yoko Taro likes to kind of being a dick, the extra story stuff is either fluff for the setting or additional story if you WANT more of the story.

/I don't care for it, but I was mostly being snarky with my first bit

To be fair, I haven't played endwalker, so you might be right.  I just can't get back into it.

I really liked the FFT one (because that's my favorite game ever) but other than the absolutely infuriating ending the mechanics were just kinda ... annoying.  There isn't any particular fight there that stands out as particularly exciting other than the Agrias and TGC fights.

I didn't care for the return to ivalice beyond getting to fawn over Fran. I remember the battles being annoying and that's about it lol.

Current tier focuses on the 12.

Yeah, those 12.

So from a story perspective, since it's the first one to be directly related to actual in world lore and not tie-ins, it's the best in a long time.

I also liked the story in Void Ark. Diabolos was badass, and it was fun smacking down the cloud.

I think the problem was void ark was the repetition.  Every time you queued you were always getting void ark and crystal tower that it just wore out.

Knocking back the death ball dragonball z style in the diablos fight was one of the coolest freaking moments in the game

Yeah, I pulled back in playing for that reason. The 2 duty option for expert roulette is ridiculous. I never do the 24 man raids anymore either.

And yeah, the diabolos struggle was pretty epic.

Did you play any of the relic weapon stuff last expansion to fight the other version of diabolos? Epic light show!
