Did you donate a bunch of money to Hillary back during the great arugula scandal of 2007? It seems you love petty attacks on people for talking about the price of "fancy" food. Would hate to think you're just an opportunist.

Rich people may enjoy fancy food at their leisure.  Ones that use it to lie to me for political gain is deserving of scorn.  If your IQ was perhaps above room temperature, you might understand the subtle difference there.

I really hope that my "hope" is not misplaced, but it looks like there has been a shift in the political axis. For years it was the Democrats who were projected as out of touch elitists by the GOP. I remember the John Kerry football catch video. Obama's arugula lettuce and spicey mustard. The liberal left coast Hollywood values. Plus many more.

Now suddenly it is the GOP that is starting to be on the receiving end of these. Dr Oz stands out the most, being a celebrity doctor carpetbagging in Pennsylvania. The head of their party is a rich out of touch elitist celebrity in Trump.

That video would have never made it past a vetting committee a decade ago. Now the GOP has jumped the shark, they have lost their soul and have become the 2020's equivalent of the liberals they bashed in the 1990's. Donald Trump is their version of the Clintons.

It's like they called central casting and asked for a caricature of an out-of touch rich carpetbagger, and then the writers tripled down on it. How do you fark up the name of the grocery store and not do another take?

heavymetal: For years it was the Democrats who were projected as out of touch elitists by the GOP.

There were audience perspective issues, but half the problem was the Democrats' insane incompetence at using the media, and half was their insistence on running senators as Reg'lar Folks candidates.

The Senate is a slow, tradition-bound, procedure-oriented, We'll Get There In Good Time kind of place that trains politicians to use SAT Prep language and try to sound Statesmanesque.  It trains them to believe that public rhetoric is just a game and has no bearing on the actual machinery of government.  It trains them to believe partisanship is essentially irrelevant, because compromises are inevitable, and the public doesn't need to understand.  It trains them in senatorial decorum.

If you watch, say, Al Gore on a talk show when he's not running for office vs Al Gore talking to the press when he's being Mr Candidate Person, it's like the difference between someone with a stick up their ass vs someone with the Washington Monument up their ass.  Democratic senators are the worst candidates for appealing to the general public, with rare exceptions.  They tend to turn into hoary Hollywood Ivy League law professors, and they have a hard time emoting or speaking plainly.  They let the media push them around because all the real work happens behind closed doors, anyway, so who cares?

It's often painful to watch.

1) the camera crew despises you and doesn't care
2) you are too dumb to notice
3) have low opinion of audience and think THEY are to dumb to know
4) any combination of the above.

I think we need to give credit where credit is due. Dr Oz is definitely classing up the place with crudités nonsense.  I can appreciate that he taught us a classier way to say veggie tray.
