Not up to men. ANY man. Only women should be allowed to vote on what happens to our bodies, unless we get to vote on emasculating rapists, violent offender males.

None of these extremist governors will allow the public vote that Kansas did. But voters should demand it. Petition like mad to put it on your state ballot.

Hey, why let the people decide for themselves, don't they know that there are oligarchs running the state who know better?  They're in charge now, and it'll be extremely difficult to root them out...

I happen to be part of a campaign, and also have a passion for graphic design.

Kansas only allowed it because our State Supreme Court said abortion was allowed. The legislature couldn't completely outlaw it without changing the state constitution.  If they could have done it without having people vote on it, believe me, they would have

Not to trivialize but the point stands. Too bad too many 'Thug women don't get it.

Fun thing was when he won the Democratic Party primary, then switched to Republican after he won. Seems like the Democratic Party leadership needs to filter out infiltrators.

No. It should be illegal to do so anywhere, for any elected position, for the entire country.

If you campaign and win any election as an R or D, it should be mandated that you must remain with that party affiliation until the next campaign. You can only switch parties after your term has ended.

Why there hasn't been any voters challenging this bs in the courts is beyond me.

It's blatant fraud.

Um, it was never decided by voters.  Roe was a gift from the Supreme Court.

The Republican governor said the state's abortion law falls under the scrutiny of the Legislature and the attorney general.

I'm down with a ballot initiative, but this isn't radical.

I guess this is the lesson the Republicans took from Kansas.

Drop the pretenses of Democracy.

2022-08-16 10:15:20 PM
The only reason you should argue "it shouldn't be on the ballot" is because it's a civil rights issue and shouldn't be left to the whims of the public, anyway.  It should be recognized as protected by default and not a right the voters can choose to strip away from other people.

But, no, he's going the opposite: they've decided not to recognize people's rights and they don't want the voters to have the power to tell them they have to.

QFT.

Especially when your rationale for restrictions on abortion is "God decides who lives and who doesn't."

I would suggest a recall of the bastard, but this is W. VA. They would just vote for him again.

2022-08-16 10:47:45 PM
WV Republicans will do all they can to prevent voters from voting on abortion rights by referendum. Republicans vastly outnumber Democrats there, and most residents just have this absolute defiance of doing anything to make things better for themselves. Abortion is different, one issue on which residents' opinions are wildly at odds with the GOP. So of course the GOP won't let them have any say in abortion referendums. And the sad part is the pro-choice majority will keep voting for the same local and state candidates that keep restricting abortion rights. It's a farked-up state, and for the most part it intends to stay that way.

2022-08-16 10:48:31 PM
Well, duh. When SCOTUS said they were returning the issue to "the people" they didn't mean YOU.

2022-08-16 10:54:52 PM
Has no one in this thread actually read the article?

In 2018, West Virginia voters approved a constitutional amendment saying that nothing in the state Constitution "secures or protects a right to abortion or requires the funding of abortion."

They did get a chance to vote on it and they tanked it. Now that Roe is gone they want to vote again? That's fine, but I dunno if the results will be any different.

That would've purified the Democrats and Justice would have won as a Republican.

Here are the 2020 gubernatorial election results after his party switch. Democrats have no statewide pull there except for Joe Manchin. That's how right wing the state is.

BTW Jim Justice is rich as shiat and Joe Manchin is rich as shiat, and has family who, along with him, own some lucrative businesses. That's who WV votes for.

Truth is I agree.   Doesn't matter if 99% of people think a medical procedure like abortion should be illegal.  It's a right.  Not up for popular vote.

Too bad the SCORUS has been overtaken by people chosen by deplorable assholes.

Why the fark would he even care one way or the other? Like Manchin, he's just there for the coal profits.

Technically, nothing in the Constitution was decided by voters either, but we'll just put that in the same bin as "humans are just animals" & "letters are just arbitrary representations of sound" with the rest of the pointless reductive retorts made by ppl who think they're clever.

No, anus is too big.  It should be a medicine ball through his urethra.

Like it or not it looks like anti abortion laws are here to stay.  So it is time to start asking Republican leaders how they are preparing their states for the upcoming baby boom of poor inner city babies that are gonna need to be fed, clothed, and educated.

So do not forget to publicly ask your local Republican officials what they are doing to prepare for the coming Black Baby Boom in the next few months, so that the African American community is not left hurting and hungry from an unprepared local government.

Every town hall, school board meeting, and election debate should have the subject of the Black Baby Boom that is gonna follow overturning Roe so that we can get people thinking about how we are gonna move resources around and make adjustments to our tax code now.
