Well Subs, I can't confirm when he was in the building or exactly when he left, but unless he's hiding in a crawlspace I'm unaware of, I think I can safely guarantee he's not here now.

I was 11. I remember Walter Cronkite opening the CBS Evening News, "Good Evening, Elvis Presley is dead." And everyone gasped. We didn't like him or his music. It was just a surprise.

I had a coworker who thought Elvis was alive and lived in the second floor of Graceland.   He had this whole theory of the date that Elvis died had some mathematical significance, and Elvis's housekeeper still Lived at Graceland.  He was dead serious too.  He was also a giant Elvis fan.

When you get to a point in your world famous career where you can fly you and a bunch of friends in your own private jet from Graceland to a restaurant in Colorado for two and a half dozen Fool's Gold sandwiches (8,000 calories each) and eat them on the tarmac before flying back the same night, I think you can safely say you've done everything you can do in your life, and you can comfortably pack it in at any time secure in that knowledge.

He had 100 people on his personal payroll at the time of his death. No way all of them would have kept their mouth shut on him faking his death.

I was 9 and at my grandparents house, watching Little Rascals reruns, when they ran a "breaking news" deal, saying Elvis had died. I knew who he was, but wasn't exactly concerned about it. I was just kind of pissed that they broke into my afternoon shows to report it. Then I realized my grandma was crying and just kind of in a daze. It wasn't until later in life that I understood that kind of emotional response to the death of somebody you never actually met.

The first memory I have is the death of Elvis. I was 3. I just remember everyone being shocked and sad. I had no idea who he was, obviously.

Having never been a big Elvis fan, I wasn't aware of just how big a scumbag Parker was until I saw the movie a few weeks ago. Jesus, that dude was just a horrible human being.

/I'm sure the movie took some liberties, but even if half the things were true, Parker was still a massive POS

I'm listening to Elvis Radio on SiriusXM.  I forgot today was the anniversary of his death.
I know it's cool to hate on him, but I enjoy his music.  He died 2 years before I was born.

By all accounts, the Colonel was a genuinely awful person. The long-standing rumor about  his immigration is that he snuck into the U.S. because he was on the run after beating a woman to death in his native Netherlands.

It's also odd that he never took advantage of an amnesty that was declared for illegal immigrants in the U.S. in 1940, a decade after he came over. He could have become a legal resident with a couple of phone calls.

Elvis got me a beating.

When news of his death came over the radio, I told my aunt and started laughing.  My aunt, who was getting ready to go out to dinner and then an Elvis Presley concert, did not take the news well.

Totally worth it, cause fark her.

I still say this track holds up really well after all this time. The background chorus is the most dated element of it to my ears.

There's a Doc on HBOMax called The Seeker about Elvis, goes in a little deeper on the Col. vegas stuff.

I preferred his movies. 'Follow that Dream', especially. I love the scene when he goes to the bank for a loan.

I was thirteen, and babysitting my neighbor's kids, when the news broke that afternoon.  I called my mom; Elvis was more her generation than mine.  I watched the tribute on the news that evening after the kids were asleep.  Did all right until they closed with him singing "Love Me Tender" and pow! right in the feels.  I blamed my red eyes on allergies when the parents got home.

I was born on his birthday and my parents anniversary is death day, so yeah, E was kind of a big deal for our family.

Anyway the Replacements still have my favorite set of lyrics that include Elvis.

Groucho Marx died that same week and his death was pretty much ignored thanks to Elvis.

For the only time in his life, his timing was off.
