Probably funnel cake.

I haven't been to a carnival or fair or festival in years.  We were talking about heading to the Ren-Fest this year...I just wish we could find one that wasn't overwhelmed with traffic and overly restrictive (on food and drink) corporate sponsors.

A fair is a veritable smorgasbord-orgasbord-orgasbord...

Funnel cakes, a paper cone of shoestring fries with malt vinegar, corn dogs, lemonade, and cotton candy.

Fresh cut fries with malt vinegar.

It is not the same at 5 guys.

Something about the white paper cone and fries dripping as you walk through the dirt tracks smelling all the smells of the food and seeing all of humanity in front of you.

Tough call but probably the Chinese shish kabobs. Funnel cake comes in second.

My wife will buy kettle corn or cotton candy.  I can't remember the last time I bought any food at a festival or fair*, but it was probably beer.

*Excluding Beer festivals obviously. We'll probably be hitting one this weekend and will be volunteering at the Septembeer fest on the 10th.

I like good cheap beer at the fair.  Like Schlitz or Miller High Life.

Whatever a particular stand is calling a blooming' onion but only at the beginning of the day when the oil's fresh. And it has to be shared because if not eaten quickly, it gets soggy and unappetizing.

I grew up in the Northeast where, during the summer and fall, predominantly Italian Catholic churches held festas to raise money and honor their patron saints. I loved getting sausage and peppers and pizza fritta at each one. The experience is not complete until the sausage grease drips down your hands and gets underneath your pinky ring.

A local restaurant smokes bacon sliced 1" thick and puts it on a stick for a yearly beer festival.

More commonly found though, Elotes done right are my favorite

Nodine's Smokehouse sets up a booth at the area agricultural fairs, and I always go for the Andouille sausage sandwich with peppers and onions.

Mystery meat on a stick.  Pizza.  Ice cream sandwich on waffles.  Paper bag full of zeppoles and and powdered sugar.  Box wine in a plastic cup.  Tums.

2: turkey leg
1: hot pretzel

Pork chop on a stick. Specifically an Iowa chop, they are twice as thick as a normal chop.

That and corn on the cob.

It used to be corn dogs, but they've been getting cheap with the actual hotdog lately. I don't want a skinny chicken or turkey dog in my corndog

Candied pecans in a funnel.

a milkshake from the 4H kids

freshest ice cream you can get, and you get to support the local 4H instead of some out of town fair food vendor

Feast of San Gennero.
Sausage peppers and onions. The pop into a bar for a shot and a bear.
March in the heat
Vomit into a sewer grate.
Fall asleep in the car on the way home.
You know...family fun.

Fried cheese on a stick
Add a little yellow mustard!

Corn dog with ketchup and mustard and soft serve cone with magic shell.  NOM.

That barbeque stand where someone passed out in the line waiting for it. You know sh*t's good if people's bodies are punishing them before they even eat it

Maybe I just have had bad luck, but turkey legs look really farking appetizing whoever I see someone walking around with one. When I actually get it, the thing is dry and kind of tough.

this! but with strawberries, cherries, or triple berry topping on them! classic cinnamon sugar (or maybe vanilla ice cream, or whipped cream, and chocolate sauce) on the elephant ears. go all-in!

i think it's been nearly 20 years since i had any though. at naperville's end-of-summer "last fling" fest

Pittsburgh is at the opposite end of Pennsylvania from Philadelphia. So far that it is hard to find a decent Cheese Steak.

One of the best ones I had was at Kennywood Amusement Park

Unless a joint produces steaks in high volume they are no good..

Water buffalo placenta served with raw bile.

the $118.00 corndog

kettle corn

I was once told that funnel cakes cause anal leakage. I've never had a funnel cake, but I'd faint from hunger rather than eat one now.

But why would they call it a funnel cake, if you don't need to use a funnel afterwards...?

Indian tacos, jerky, craft beer.  For some reason the third is never around the former two and vice versa.  Like not even the same event.

If only. All I could find at the county fair this year were those ridiculous fry bricks.

Traditionally, the batter hit the hot oil after flowing through a funnel. Now squeeze bottles are often used for batter squirtin'

However you toilet yourself later can remain your secret, and yours alone!

A tie between the 4H elephant ears and the chip wagon doing fresh curly fries.  At the latter, they spear a large baker potato with an attachment chucked in a cordless drill and then run the spud through a cutter.  The result is usually a big basket containing one humongous curly fry.

Deep fried cheese curds.....nothing else comes close...including Sweet Martha's Chocolate Chip Cookies
Second place: Pronto Pups (like corn dogs but made with flour-based batter, not corn)
Third place: Walleye...in any way, shape, or form

/Why yes...this is the MN state fair...why do you ask?

Butterfly fries and funnel cake.
I miss the butterfly fries more than the funnel cake right now. Man, I could kill some fair food

Elephant ears, fresh over-sugared lemonade, deep fried Oreos, and Korean beef and kimchi french fries are what I actually bought at the 2 fairs I attended this month and other than the lemonade are my favorites (it was just better than spending almost as much money on a 20oz pop). Before I became lactose intolerant fudge was on the list as well.

Soft serve maple ice cream
Fresh-squeezed lemonade
Hot pretzels and beer

A German fest, Schwenkbraten. Marinated pork cooked on a grill that swings over coals. Served on a little roll. Moist, tender, and wonderfully seasoned.

All of it. Cheesesteaks if I have to name one.
