This is good news for sane people.

Desantis is more dangerous (slightly less stupid)  and more likely to win the general.

I remember years ago when Sniveling Ted Cruz was first coming to prominence, Democrats were wringing their hands about how dangerous he was because he was so brilliant. Then when we got to know him, the picture was very different.

DeSantis may be the same way. He may look smart now, but you don't have the stupid opinions or do the stupid things he does if you're actually smart.

His hold on the Florida GOP is more likely to be similar to TFG's in that it's a product of bluster, bribery, and backstabbing. You can't keep that up on the national stage.

I hope you are right.

That said, he SOUNDS less stupid than Dolt45. Even that gives him an advantage.

Nobody expects the GOP to ever come to their senses. They are all in a cult now, and will only begin to question their 'reality' when the dear leader is gone.

We said the same thing about Palin until she showed she couldn't run a 7/11, let alone be a heartbeat away from the presidency.

Trump had/has this vacuous openness that allowed millions of people to load him up with their abject fantasies. I have relatives who loved him because 1) he's this cool, rich golfer and businessman, 2) he's a godly man who will kill abortions, 3) he's a big strong daddy who will protect wee little me.

He was glitzy, glamorous, seemed in total control, had a sleazy cool, and evangelicals were able to lie to themselves about him. Not to mention all the racebaiting white supremacist stuff. Even paleo-cons like my father were kinda okay with him, ignoring (stupidly) the other stuff.

DeSantis doesn't control that kind of open-ended charisma. He's a closed fist. Absolutely dangerous and an ideologue, but I don't know if he has that huge and broad appeal. We'll see.

This was entirely predictable for a party who's whole raison d'etre is "stigginit." When the "Liberals" are so mad at you that they're raiding you're home, you must have done something right.

Good. A 10-point gain is something he can brag about at Club Fed and get massive cred in the commissary.

Interesting take.

I have (thankfully) very few magas in my family and friends circle so I don't get to study it close up.

Good. Split. Keep splitting.

Ultimately, the best news would be a close fight between Trump and DeSantis RD shiats all over DT in a primary that DeSantis wins. Trumpers would never forgive him for insulting their tin god-king.

I blame Sons of Anarchy for glamorizing criminals.

No, I wouldn't think that. Because I know the Republican party is a cult, not a political organization.

Whatever it takes to have the GOP rubes continuing to send money to support Trump - money he's going to squander on legal fees and nonsense.

I think some of you are fundamentally misunderstanding how a cult works... they don't quit the cult just because you criticize it, raid it, or try to shut it down for breaking tons of laws. You're thinking of these Trump voters like they're a political bloc, and they're just not... it's a cult, through and through, their cult leader can do no wrong. He's a David Koresh with an orange spray tan, not just an unpalatable political candidate.

DeSantis wasn't going to run with trump in his way anyhow.

2022-08-15 2:28:54 PM
Should Biden pardon TFG and unleash him on the GOP primaries to sow discord and weaken DeSantis or jail him and give desantis the ability to "support" TFG without having to deal with him?

/I hate to say it, but I'm leaning to convict/pardon being the smarter play.

Nah, they'll just flounder around until they find another Dear Leader, just like in the time between Reagan and Trump.

Because he speaks nothing but gibberish, Trump is a blank slate onto which one can project any qualities one finds desirable. They hear him say whatever they wanted to hear him say.

May we never see his like again.

A good start to that would be a life sentence at Club Fed.

What?

I don't know a damn person who said she was smart OR who said she had a fast track as "next in line" for Republicans, both of which *could possibly* be said about DeSantis.

Some people like DeSantis and Cruz dumb themselves down for the votes, and DeSantis can apparently manipulate those under him into breaking the law. Palin is a LOT closer to the MTG, Boebert, Hershell Walker side of the aisle...

Anyone with an IQ over room temperature thought it either wouldn't matter much to Rethuglicans or that it would boost his poll numbers. They love STIGGINIT and playing victims. This raid does both:

He's obviously STIGGINIT if the DoJ raided Mar-a-Lardo but he's totes the victim because they raided Mar-a-Lardo... the fact he had anything there he shouldn't have had is irrelevant.

Trump being a criminal is a feature to them, not a bug. A Real Man(tm) doesn't let shiat like pesky laws get in the way of his will. And presidents are basically god-kings (unless there's a D after their name) in any case.

DeSantis is stupid (not as stupid as Trump), but he's experienced, knowledgeable, and knows how to make government work in his favor.

If Trump were even half as competent, he would have done much more damage

So you're telling me that by simply leaving the DOJ to do its own work with the independence & integrity required of it in a democratic nation we'll functionally be able to select as our own opposition candidate the same guy who flamed, failed out, and lost last time?

I'm listening.
