When I lived in NYC, we had this older couple in the apartment next door to mine. Sweet old folks. The husband died after a long bout of colon cancer and during and after I would take extra food, cookies, that sort of thing to the him and his eventual widow every few days, to help them out, and after he passed, because she would sometimes forget to eat. Well, two or three months later, she also passed on, no shock at all, they lived for each other. Sad but I understood. Six months later, I'm living back upstate with my folx an attourney reaches out - she left me 5k$. She was apparently very well off from the pension, benefits, and savings, and thought to add me for my kindness.

Reach out to those who can use it. You never know how it will help you, in addition to the addition of kindness and knowledge you're helping.

I have two skinny bachelor neighbors. I share when I cook too much. They got chicken and veggies tonight.

Meh, my elderly neighbors are jerks.

They complain about stuff (our dogs occasionally barking, not mowing the lawn once), admit we're not really doing anything wrong (call the dogs in as soon as they bark, didn't mow cuz the grass had been sprayed to mark buried cables), then complain again because reasons.
The husband once harangued me that we should pay to have 2 raccoons trapped/killed as they got into our attic and as such were "ours".  We live a few hundred meters from a conservation area, there are ALWAYS raccoons (and other creatures) around.

They're (neighbors, not critters) overweight and have joint problems, some weight loss will do them good 😝
