Despite neither the Swiss or the Austrians having won a game so far, the winner will advance to the quarter-finals.  The winner gets to play whoever wins today's Canada/Finland game.

Early lead for Austria, deflected in off the post.  1-0 AUT

And Switzerland ties it up with 2:29 left in the first period, 1 all.

Canada/Finland games are always good because they're basically clones.  Fifty years later and Carl Brewer still looms large.

Oscar Mayer is a bad hot dog.

Despite being down one and going home if they didn't win, Austria never entered the Danger Zone.  3-2 final, Switzerland advances to the quarters and we're left to wonder why the Austrian coach never tried to pull his goalie for the extra attacker.

Not saying that Latvia "winning a game" thing made me cry; it did.

But dammit it, the fact that the whole TSN team loved it was a bonus.

Hey, Tessa; I'm Latvian!!!

5-1 Canada after two.

Canada playing with fire now.
Finland scored their second goal after the puck went out of play into the mesh above the glass, but the ref didn't call it and the replay guys had no view of it. So the goal stands.

Now two Canadians are in the box, one of them for a 5-minute kneeing penalty.

Nail-biting time.

Can't see why they try to block pucks with their hands. Thats a one shot deal, broken fingers after that.

More penalty trouble for CAN. Another 29 seconds of 5-on-3.

FIN goes goalie-out for the last part of the second minor and they make it 5-3 with the power play goal.
Three and a half minutes to go.

Empty net goal makes it 6-3 CAN.
1:47 to go

Canada survives the third period to win 6-3. They will play SUI on Wednesday.

I'm here, finally. Was out on a day trip with friends yesterday and been working all day today.

And just in time for Sweden to take the lead after a high stick review

From what it sounds like, this will be Wednesday's quarterfinal schedule (number is their seeding for when they reseed for the semis)

Finland (4) v Germany (5) - Noon ET
Sweden (3) v Latvia (6) - 3:30pm
Canada (1) v Switzerland (8) - 7pm
USA (2) v Czechia (7) - 10:30pm

/seeding determined by group placement, points in group, goal difference (only needed to separate USA/CAN)

The Swedish goalie's name is Clang?

Germany with a consolation goal with under 10 seconds left.

I will be very surprised if the semi finals are not Canada, Finland, Sweden, and the US.

The German player of the game is the other Coyotes prospect in the tournament. Nice.
