This is unironically a triumph of modern epidemiology and a GREAT sign for our ability to possibly adapt to a planet that is actively trying to kill us.

You really can't argue with "Both lineages can be traced back to the southeast corner of this one particular market in China and no farther.  Also, after the lineages split, you can't find both of them *anywhere else* in that original form."  I don't need any counterfactuals about how it can't be the lab at that point.

I get the feeling that if we didn't have all the other distractions, we would probably know the species if not the INDIVIDUAL animal that was the culprit for transmission to humans.

That's kinda nutty.

Unfortunately, we live in a world full of idiots who ignore evidence that shows their own pet ideas are wrong.

Creationists still exist. Thus, the Lab Leak "Theory" will never die.

I wish I was wrong.

I'm glad that we now believe with near-certainty that it evolved its way out of one of the many disgusting outdoor markets where Chinese people sell diseased and tortured animals with little regard for the concept of food safety, because presuming it may have escaped an advanced scientific lab would be... racist?

Pfft. The globalists have just showed their evidence manipulating hand. They practiced with the worst pandemic in a century, and have now perfected their evidence tampering skills in the Mecca of Mar-A-Lago. This is a sure sign of the end times.

I do wonder how much money the Chinese government paid this guy to write this...

Chinese propaganda that admits their desire to crowd together and eat every animal known to man, breeding a pandemic in the sloppy indifferent process?

NEXT-LEVEL PROPAGANDA!!

But you're too smart to see through it, hey mate?

Consider the odds that a virus that leaked from a lab was first detected at the very place where you would expect it to emerge if it in fact had a natural animal origin - vanishingly low.

You mean immunologically-naive mammals packed tightly together? Isn't that where you would expect to find samples of an infectious disease regardless of origin?

My favorite part of the "sheep" terminology is that it more accurately refers to being led from behind, that the sheep run from things they don't understand and end up corralled even more easily than if they'd had a leash on.

Anyway, enough about the irony of the language used by reactionary dipshiats.

So now it's a bioweapons lab?

I swear, we should have opened this entire Covid Escapade by announcing that catching covid will make your dick fall off.  Half of you morons would have been completely cowed into staying home for a year straight, sucking down Gods Own Mac n Cheese by the bucketful.  The other half would have cut your dicks off out of spite.

Win/win.

How is it not plausible that extra animals from the lab were taken to the market to be sold? Example, some poor janitor looking for extra cash takes a few animals who may not be missed, either dead or alive, and sells them at the market. While I don't believe its some vast conspiracy by china or the lab, accidents happen, even at very secure biolabs. Just ask the Russians about their bio-weapon lab leak.

This pattern of deception and obfuscation, combined with the new revelations about how Chinese labs were handling dangerous coronaviruses in ways their Western counterparts didn't know about, led some U.S. officials to become increasingly convinced that Chinese authorities were manipulating scientific information to fit their narrative. But there was so little transparency, it was impossible for the U.S. government to prove, one way or the other. "If there was a smoking gun, the CCP [Communist Party of China] buried it along with anyone who would dare speak up about it," one U.S. official told me. "We'll probably never be able to prove it one way or the other, which was Beijing's goal all along."

This is the real story right here. All the statistic-ese BS is just that: bs. Statistical methods are in a reproducibility crisis right now for precisely the same reason: you can cherry-pick your numbers & methodology to support basically anything.
In this case, China is using it to bury a story that isn't just embarrassing but catastrophic.

No doubt china and possibly the lab (if its the origin) are engage in a cover up. My point is that it very unlikely this was done on purpose like some others have claimed.
