wait, is "please slice this sourdough loaf, thin" a "hack" doesn't everyone know about it?

although i DO recommend picking up some raw Big Grocery pizza dough in a bag whenever you are in a rush and want fun flatbreads, calzones (aka homemade hot pockets and pasties), and yeah, pizzas.

If the berries are looking tired and wrinkly, you can ask to replace them?   Ummmm, no.  To me, that's a strong sign that the cake is probably stale, too.

I don't think I've ever worked with a bakery person who'd bake something on request right then and there. Unless it's a scratch bakery, chances are pretty good that it's shipped frozen (cookie doughs, bread loaves, pies, cakes, etc.) and may not be available for immediate baking. Even if the product were available to make immediately, you're still waiting on cool down time because no one wants to be held liable for handing over product that's too hot. It's much better to follow the suggestion to put in a request a day or two in advance.

Uhh, managed 2 different bakeries for a pretty long time so:
Most bakeries are not supposed to sell supplies (be nice and offer to pay, and ya might get it for free),don't get mad though if not, supplies can be a biatch to get.
Never ever had a customer as to freshen up the berries.
As for selling you the good stuff, it is crazy how much better a bakeries icing will be compared to the little tubs on the grocery shelf, if you can, the do it.
The decorate anything-well, possible yeah, but better have somebody good enough, I'd refuse certain dumb request, but if I had the time and the person is nice, I'd probably do it. Come at me demanding and I would refuse. Also placing a copy-written thing onto the cake is a civil violation.
(and no, going "above my head" would not get the results you want the vast majority of the time).
In the age of lawsuits and potential health hazards we will not put your outside brought in things onto a cake, some places might, I wouldn't.
Most chains won't sell you frozen dough to bake at home, potential lawsuit issues...

For most things, if the manager is good and not working for over controlling dicks, your niceness goes a long way in special request.

I was thinking the same thing as well.

If the fruit is that tired and wrinkly, they're either using older fruit to begin with (a red flag) or the item isn't fresh and isn't selling (another red flag).

And even if the fruit looks fresh, it could be being used to cover up something that's not so fresh or nice.
