(CBS Sports)   It's only been one game, and a preseason one at that, but it's never too early to start rating the NFL's rookie quarterbacks. Overall: not too bad   (cbssports.com) divider line
More: Interesting, American football, San Francisco 49ers, Free agent, undrafted free agent, year's rookie quarterback class, Peyton Manning, Undrafted sportsperson, good plays

Preseason.  it's rookies, second and third-stringers playing against the same.  You are only rating them against their peers but to get a true sense you have to see them play with and against the veteran starters. Plus, in preseason the offenses and defenses are often quite vanilla.

Forgot to watch the game, but that brief synopsis sounds REALLY good.

He did great, but it's preseason against 3rd stringers. Though in fairness he's playing with 3rd stringers so that might all even out

Lance isn't a rookie. His presence in the article lets you know it's a bunch of shiat. Look at Pickett's stats. All 0's. More quality reporting.

Still it's better to do well in those situations than to not do well

Yeah, we all know that.

It was a lot of fun to watch. Especially with the added excitement of a tied score near the end.

He's got 2 NFL starts in 6 games played over every other rookie on that list.

I love how with Daniel Jonoes, "hey, 4 OCs in 4 years, give the kid a break, he's gonna a top 10'er someday."

John rosen, 4 OCs in four years over 2 franchises, "not surprised, we all knew he wasn't dedicated to football."

they're not the same QB but I do love how one gets the benefit of the doubt, and Rosen "was probably a 2nd rounder, maybe third even."

Larry Fitz stood up for Rosen that's good enough for me.

The crowd was certainly happy to see him play.

It always galled me how badly the Cards screwed Rosen.

1. Sam Bradford was the starter, with the brand new HC Steve Willks and a brand new OC.  Plan was for Rosen to be on clipboard duty that year, then compete for the starting position in 2019.

2.  Bradford, in the OC's needlessly complicated playbok, struggled. after 3 games of zero offense, the HC ordered teh OC to simplify the playbook.

3.  Bradford get benched around Week 4, Rosen thrown in the #1 slot.

4.  OC gets farking fired about Week 5 or 6.  Byron Leftwich is elevated to OC (which he'd never rone).  He installs a new offense mid-season.  Rosen struggles.

5. Disastrous season.  Wilks is firen, Kingsbury is hired, we draft Kyler Murray and release Rosen.

we totally farked that guy.  i'm no UCLA alum, I dont have a John Rosen jersey (or any jersey), just we just screwed him.

Yeah, more promising than I was thinking. Still hoping this is a redshirt year. None of the QBs actually looked bad, though Rudolph nearly threw a really dumb pic

I can't believe there are O/U and point spreads for the preseason games.

There was a time in my life I would have bet on a preschool Candyland game.

The way everyone online was jizzing themselves over Kenny Pickett yesterday I guess we can safely assume he's gonna suck if he ever gets any real playing time.

I'm watching this Raiders-Vikings game and seeing this skinny little #11 take snaps for Minnesota just doesn't look right.

I know that'd be the most sensible way to play it, but I don't know if the fans in general have the patience for it.

WGAS what the fans think? The fans are stupid, ignore them

Skylar Thompson looked good against the Bucs. That said, I think Bridgewater will be OK as a backup.  Skylar may turn into something special, but I'd give him a full season in the NFL before making him the official backup QB, and only if he shows real NFL capabilities his first season.

It's beginning to look a lot like football.
Everywhere you go
Take a look at the five and ten, it's glistening once again
With candy canes and silver lanes that glow
