They lost jobs or entire careers. Marriages fell apart. Friends and relatives shunned them or even reported them to the FBI. Strangers have sent them hate mail and online threats. And they have racked up expensive legal bills to defend themselves against federal charges ranging from misdemeanors to serious felonies.

Good. And let them mount their pathetic grifts, then seize all the money.

They can start by trying to corner the Ramen market in prison.

And prosecutors want a Maine man who raised more than $20,000 from supporters to surrender some of the money because a taxpayer-funded public defender is representing him.

Some?

They caused millions of dollars in damage. At the very least seize it all and give it to the families of the dead D.C. police officers.

The business model has  taken off.  All through the country, people, "probationers," with January 6 convictions have banded together to acquire more criminal history and produce more artifacts to sell.    The "well regulated militias" have become the "well organized crime organizations" selling their crimes as collectables.

You know what? They're only selling to each other. If it keeps them from trying to overthrow the country and they pay their taxes, they can sell their gewgaws all they want.

Stupid isn't their fault, I can deal with stupid.  But belligerent, dangerous stupid that attempts to install a fascist dictatorship crosses a line beyond which empathy cannot be applied.

"Son of Sam" laws pretty much have been tossed as unconstitutional.  The usual route is to have a high restitution amount that allows the government to attach any profits, but that's on a case by case basis.

They work here, I think.  😀  They're unicode, so it's really up to how your program displays them.  The core ones everyone's used to seeing are pretty standardized across devices.  You can copy paste from a website (emojipedia, or the unicode list) or just use alt codes.  E.g. Smiley face is ctrl + U + 1F600 (how you enter alt codes will vary.  ctrl U is ubuntu and probably linux OSes generally)

Can't the families of anyone who died or the officers injured on Jan 6 sue in civil court as well?
